Chicken Cooked in Rice Wine 黄酒鸡 @ Restoran How Inn in Taman Johor Jaya

Chicken cooked in rice wine is one of the most popular dishes on offer at Restoran How Inn 好運 in Taman Johor Jaya. (The others are its signature clay pot catfish and bak kut teh which I cover in other posts.)

RM8 for this clay pot of yellow wine chicken 黄酒鸡
Known in Chinese literally as Yellow Wine Chicken 黄酒鸡, the fresh chicken pieces are cooked in rice wine with plenty of ginger shreds and sesame oil in a clay pot. The resulting dish has a pungent aroma of rice wine as well as a distinctive sourly taste.

Ladies seem to like this dish so much that some of them throw elegance to the wind and splurge up the soup ;P   Though it is not for everyone, personally, I too enjoy its full bodied, robust flavour. The rice wine does not have any intoxicating effect. It just adds its unique flavour to the chicken and soup - unless you are so impressed by its taste that you are intoxicated by its aroma ☻

The fresh chicken pieces infused with the rice wine, sesame oil and ginger juices are naturally sweet and loaded with flavour. It goes perfectly with plain steamed white rice.

If anyone has that craving for good rice wine chicken, I’ll take them here.

I firmly believe that taste is subjective and so, warmly welcome differing viewpoints :-D But, I disapprove negative comments that are anonymous or hide behind fake identities. I feel that that is the same as speaking ill of others behind their backs. I look forward to all your comments :-D Thank you. (Date: 18 Dec 2015)
