Reader Lye Wah suggested that I try the Sarawak kolo mee stall at Song Song 松松 kopitiam in Tampoi. Thanks Lye Wah :D

(Note: This 林玉梅 Sarawak Kolo Mee stall has moved to the row of stalls outside Sutera Mall.)

On Lye Wah's suggestion, we were at Song Song 松松 kopitiam at 10:00am on a busy Monday morning.

The Sarawak kolo mee stall was doing a brisk business. The boss was cooking non-stop as there were many take away orders besides people dining in.

Despite the hectic pace, the friendly boss, Mr. Chai was very obliging with our questions. Mr. Chai came from Miri, Sarawak and has been running this stall for just over two years.

Back at our seats, the Sarawak kolo mee come with the signature curly noodles topped with neatly arranged slices of char siew, some fried minced pork and a sprinkling of cut spring unions. Basic and simple.

The noodles also came with a small bowl of chicken soup.

The aromatic sauce was mainly lard and shallot oil. There was just enough sauce to coat and flavour the crunchy noodles. I am the drippy sauce type of person - so when I wrote about the kolo mee stall in Taman Pelangi with the drippy sauce, several readers suggested that I also try the drier kind - this is one of them.

I was in Miri, Sarawak two years ago and friends brought me to several popular Sarawak kolo mee stalls. In my memory, this kolo mee stall in Song Song 松松 Kopitiam is pretty similar to those that I tried in Miri.

This stall also sells Sarawak laksa which I shall come back to try.

  1. Can someone tell me where I can find decent Sarawak kampua in JB or SG?

Kolo mee is everywhere in JB & SG. There are more than enough decent ones around but not kampua mee. Even if it is Sitiawan version, I am still fine with it!

    1. For Sarawak Kampua, I tried one near Kulai Aeon Mall very similiar taste with Sarawak. I don't have actual location but is located in a double storey shop lots behind Aeon Mall. There is one newly open Electric shop which occupied 3 shop lots, the Kampua mee is behind the electric shop. Hope it helps!
