Visited the newly opened The Gallery Wine & Dine in Johor Bahru JB, last night. We love the food and wine as well as the whole experience at this newly opened restaurant.

The Gallery Wine & Dine is a large standalone building right opposite Paragon Residences. The building was formerly the sales gallery of Paragon Residences and repurposed into a high end restaurant and bar after the luxury condominium's completion.

Stepping into The Gallery, we were welcomed into a nice and cosy bar.

The Gallery has a wine cellar and behind it, there is a cigar room.

Several well appointed private dining rooms with heavy dark wood and luxurious leather furniture.

Owner, Director, Chef Sean is proud that Gallery Wine & Dine age their own beef - the only restaurant in Johor Bahru to do so.

Gallery Wine & Dine's wine cellar stock an eclectic range of wines from around the world from premium to moderately priced wines rated above 90 points ☜

We started with Hokkaido scallops sizzling in it's own juices on a hot slab of Himalayan rock salt. Marvellous appetiser - the thick tender meaty Hokkaido scallops smell and tasted like sea spray on our lips. The saltiness and chewiness increase with longer cooking time - normally not a problem as these juicy coins are so tasty, they will be gone in a minute 😋

Full bodied tomato soup with mussel, prawn, and squid crowned with fried kale. Savoury with underlying tomato tanginess and layered with fresh seafood flavours.

Spaghetti with crab. The pasta was done al dente, exactly the way I love them. The pasta was tossed in a slick sauce of olive oil, garlic, anchovies, dried cherry tomatoes, hand pulled slivers of fresh crab meat and so on giving it deep and layered savoury flavours.

The crab was huge and fresh. We enjoyed this spaghetti with crab a lot.

The spaghetti at RM69 nett was paired with a glass of sauvignon blanc. The pairing is selected by Gallery Wine & Dine's sommelier and we enjoyed this NZ Fairbourne Estate white wine a lot. The medium bodied wine tastes fruity and smells of flowers.

A large chunk of cod baked and then grilled to give the skin and outer layer a slight crisp.

The tender white meat was ocean savoury with juicy creamy sweetness. The honey mustard sauce is laced with saffron which has a delightful flavour which is a little hard to describe - it's sweet savoury with a very subtle spice (?) - you have to taste it for yourself. The mild sauce goes very well with the delicate cod.

The RM90 nett baked Chilean cod comes paired with a glass of sauvignon blanc.

Australian Wagyu aged in house for 28 days.

Woooh..... that rich savoury sweet beefy juice oozes from the tender flesh. We enjoyed every single effortless bite, grinning as we chewed on the soft ball of marbled meat and beefy juice in our mouth.

Australian grass fed T-bone steak aged 40 days.

Simply rubbed with sea salt and pepper, then grilled. Lean yet tender and juicy tenderloin with more chewy sirloin on each side of the T-bone. We love the full bodied beefy flavour in both the juicy red meat cuts.

At Gallery Wine Dine, the steaks come paired with a glass of specially selected 90+ points red wine.

4-Star (out of 5). We enjoyed our dinner here at The Gallery Wine & Dine - every dish suited our taste buds and we love the paired wines too. The ambiance is classy yet it has a warm welcoming feel. The service staff are warm and friendly too. If I am showing my friends Western restaurants around JB, The Gallery & Wine Dine is one stop I would definitely consider for my itinerary.

Disclosure: Please note that this is an invited tasting.

I firmly believe that taste is subjective and so, warmly welcome differing viewpoints :-D But, I disapprove negative comments that are anonymous or hide behind fake identities. I feel that that is the same as speaking ill of others behind their backs. I look forward to all your comments :-D Thank you. (Date: 18 Dec 2015)
