My buddy Kok Heng kept reminding me to try Nasi Arab Al-Hanin at Taman Perling, JB.
So, here we are on a bright and sunny Saturday morning in Johor Bahru. Nasi Arab Al-Hanin is a large corner restaurant. Car parking spaces are free and plentiful :-D
Inside Al-Hanin, it is spacious and airy. Customers can choose traditional seating on floor cushions or regular tables and chairs.
We started with the Mandy Ayam (chicken) set which comes with rice, a chicken leg, soup, dip and pickles at RM12.
The chicken looked plump. The taut chicken skin had a glossy orangey reddish hue. Our first impression was it looked a little too bright and we wondered how it would taste.
But, we have faith in Kok Heng's recommendations and he is right (again :-D ). Thank you buddy :-D
The chicken flesh was tender, nearly soft, and inside it was wet with warm juices. It tasted gently savoury with light flavoursome spices. We can still taste the natural chicken flavour beneath the mild seasoning and spices. We love this :-D
The bed of long grain basmati rice was fluffy and tender to the bite. The rice had a gentle buttery savouriness with mild spice aroma and flavour. It's delicious!
We also had the Mandy Kambing (lamb) for RM15 - it's the same bed of delicious basmati rice topped with two pieces of lamb with bone.
The lamb was tender, have mild spice flavour and the gamey taste which I like. But, the fibres lacked natural sweetness.
I love this gorgeous piece of sweet tasting juicy fat even though I know my doctor will be angry with me if she knew I ate this :-p
We love the dip on the right which is provided with the Mandy Chicken and Mandy Lamb - it's sourish, sweet and minty.
Sup Kambing (mutton soup) at RM10 was mainly salty, savoury with mild spices. The same tender, gamey lamb with not much natural sweetness.
3-Star (out of 5). Two of us, we love Al-Hanin's Mandy Chicken so much that we repeated our order even though we were fully stuffed with all the various dishes we tried today. Juicy flavoursome tender chicken with lovely fluffy spiced basmati rice. The zesty sweet sourish minty dip was delightful too. Slight MSG thirst after the meal.
-> Can you recommend me more good places for Nasi Arab in Johor and Singapore? I love it. Thank you :-D
