Yummy Duck Kuchai KL - Lovely Wanton Noodles 鸭味无穷

On our way from JB to Kuala Lumpur today, we swung by Yummy Duck, a famous Cantonese roasts shop at Jalan Kuchai Maju 18 for lunch.

From JB, we drove straight into this popular makan hub smack during lunch time and had to cruise the congested streets here for nearly 30 minutes before we found a legal parking slot 😂

We were here to try Yummy Duck's famous roast duck, so we ordered a lower ¼. For carbs, we had a wanton mee and a plate of hor fun. We also had the soup of the day, which is "old cucumber soup". We also wanted to try the roast goose but the minimum order is half a bird and there was only two of us, so we had to skip it till next time.

The roast duck was served in large meaty chunks with bone in. The golden brown duck skin was crisp. The meat was tender and slightly moist (but not juicy as in not wet with juice). There was very little fat (I would like more 😜). The meat and skin were infused with a well balanced 5-spice 五香粉 savoury flavour. There was a very slight spice aroma.

The mound of wanton mee sat on a shallow pool of tea coloured watery sauce and served with 5 wantons and some fresh leafy greens.

Oh... I like Yummy Duck's wanton noodles. The slender egg noodles were done soft al dente but they retained a nice spring to the bite. The light, clean tasting egg noodles were smothered in an aromatic, savoury sweet drippy slurpy blend of sesame oil, light soy sauce, lard and watery stock etc. (This differs from the black viscous "overused motor oil" lardy type sauce I associate with KL style wanton mee.)

The large wantons were filled with finely minced pork (too fine for me 😝).

We also had this large plate of hor fun which come served with prawns, fish cake slices, siew yok, mushroom, carrot and greens bathed in a thick eggy starchy sauce.

We were won over by the toasty taste of this well wok seared broad flat rice noodles. The eggy mildly savoury sweet sauce complemented and balanced the more intensely flavoured noodles.

This homely old style "old cucumber soup" has layers of sweetness from the juicy gourd, pork and red dates. Tasty, comforting soup.

👉 We enjoyed everything we tried at Yummy Duck. But, KL is blessed with many top notch roast duck, hor fun and double boiled soup places. Still, I will be back at Yummy Duck because of their wanton mee - I like "lively" noodles with drippy aromatic savoury sweet sauce. Would also love to try their roast goose but need to jio (gather) a few more kakis (buddies) as minimum order is half a goose. I also got to try their famous siew yok and char siew too next time.
