Yunlong Crevice Scenic Area in Enshi, Hubei 云龙地缝景区

Arriving in Enshi from Wuhan after a comfortable 4-hour high speed rail ride, the first place we visited was Yunlong Crevice Scenic Area 云龙地缝景区 - a beautiful natural wonder near the Enshi Grand Canyon.

The Yunlong Crevice is a geo-fracture of the Yunlong River. The river was a "water cave" hidden underground - but, eons ago erosion collapsed the roof of the "water cave" exposing the river inside.

The 7 kilometre crevice is a deep limestone gully with rocky Yunlong River below and a series of waterfalls pouring water into it from both sides of the nearly vertical bank. It's a beautiful place - if I live near here, I would walk this trail everyday for my daily exercise. I am sure it will add more healthy years to my life, not to mention greater quality of life 😄

Yunlong Crevice is spanned by several bridges. This ornate 雲龍風雨橋 or Yunlong Wind & Rain Bridge is the visitors' entrance.

The "Yellow Dragon Waterfall" 五彩黃龍瀑布 seen from the Yunlong Wind & Rain Bridge. The Yunlong River is 75 metres below.

We were here in June at the start of the rainy season in Enshi 💧 The comfortable visitor foot path is built into the sides of the crevice. It gives visitors a grand view of the waterfalls and the steep banks of Yunlong River.

This section of the river bank is called the "Stone Curtain" because it looks like a long stretch of folds of a flowing curtain.

We reached the base of the "Yellow Dragon Waterfall". Coming down is easy enough 😄

The rocks below smoothed by the Yellow Dragon's million year caress 😄 I like the sound of sprays of water showering the rocks.

The view is serene and beautiful here at the base of Yunlong Crevice. The pristine air blended with light spray from the waterfall made me take deep breaths, greedy for the super fresh air. It is reinvigorating, and I swear it smelled sweet from the ancient leafy scrubs lining and crowning the banks.

But, I felt a sudden weakness in my knees at the thought of climbing back up to Yunlong Wind & Rain Bridge high above 😂

More beautiful waterfalls as we start our trek back to the top of Yunlong Crevice.

But, smile for selfie first before the hard climb up 😂

Mesmerising waterfall like a bride's long thin flowing white headscarf.

My pained look before the climb up 😂

Finally reached the head of the waterfall. It's an exhausting 1-hour plus trek but it is definitely worth the effort. Yunlong Crevice Scenic Area is one of China's natural wonders.

From the Yunlong Crevice visitors exit, we have a wonderful view of the Enshi Grand Canyon towering above - the most spectacular sight in Enshi. We are going to visit the Grand Canyon the next morning, so this visit to Yunlong Crevice is a good appetiser.
