Malaysia Boleh! at Jurong Point has good Penang Char Kway Teow

Few would disagree with the claim that Penang style char kway teow is one of the most delicious. Many people who have tasted Penang style CKT before would crave for it when they are away from Penang.

Not many hawker stalls in Singapore serve Penang char kway teow but I am happy to share with you that the Penang CKT stall at Malaysia Boleh! food court in Jurong Point does a very decent rendition of the popular dish.

I have eaten the Penang CKT at Malaysia Boleh! food court a few times and I liked it. But, I didn't blog about it until now as I wanted to taste enough char kway teow in Penang before making up my mind.

After my recent trip to Penang, plus a couple of visits last year, I can confidently say that this CKT stall in Malaysia Boleh! is a good rendition of the real thing and would satiate your craving for Penang CKT.

There is always a long queue at the Penang char kway stall, so it's really no secret, especially to Singapore Westsiders.

The kway teow (rice noodles) is the good quality, smooth tender type made mainly with rice flour (without too much tapioca starch which would make it feel plasticky). The rice noodles are fried dry enough as good Penang CKT should be.

The wok hei won't blow your socks off but there is adequate amounts of it to please. The light, blended brown sauce which enveloped the flat rice noodles is robust and has layers of savoury flavours which are complex and interesting.

Even though I did not ask for chili, there was a slight spicy note in the noodles (which is nice).

The taugeh (bean sprouts) were done just right - they were crunchy and juicy.

The S$6 serving comes with 4 good sized shelled, plump prawns which is a signature of Penang style CKT. But, there were neither lup cheong (Cantonese waxed sausages) nor blood cockles (siham).

The CKT is fried with lard, qualifying it as a serious char kway teow deserving respect 😄

👉 Friends in Singapore, if you crave for Penang style char kway teow, you can get a good one at Malaysia Boleh! in Jurong Point. I won't dare to compare this with the best in Penang but it is not too shabby compared to the Penang CKT that I have tried so far. One of the best in Singapore.

    1. Yes, yes it's great news! I have been checking them out one by one ;-D The Gohtong Jaya zhi char is good. The hor fun got lots of wok hei and tastes good! Will blog the zhi char after another visit (if got more good dishes). Please share with me your fav stalls in the extension. Thank you.
