Johor Kaki Travels to Bangkok - A Photo Essay
This is a photo essay of my (way too short) 2-day trip to Bangkok in August 2013.
In Bangkok, street side eating is a way of life. Bangkok is not the only city with such a culture but it's vibrancy and buzz has few, if any parallel.
This lady was selling boiled chicken and braised ducks at the wet market near the Shangri-La Hotel at the banks of the Chao Phraya River.
I have never seen ham cheem peng so big and puffy. These were the best ham cheem peng that I have tasted in all my years. Subtly sweet and savoury in a piping hot and airy bun. At a street stall in Yaowarat (Chinatown).
Super crispy on the outside while soft, moist and fluffy inside. Peanut pancake (meen chang kueh) in Yaowarat. Have to admit again that this is the best!
Braised pork trotter and leg stall in Yaowarat. Very good but I don't think I found the best yet.
A heap of pickled crabs in Yaowarat.
Fish ball hawker in Yaowarat.
Slow roasting bananas over a pan of charcoal in Yaowarat.
There are many stalls selling roasted bananas dipped in syrup.
Road side BBQ stands at Siam Square.
This picture made me feel my arteries are clogging up. Frying oysters and eggs in "sludge" at Pratunam. Dangerously irresistible :P
Grilled Snakehead fish at Siam Square.
The ubiquitous tuk tuk. Not the cheapest nor safest means to get around Bangkok but the most thrilling and fun, depending on how you look at it :P
Coming back to Bangkok? For sure! Can't wait to be back. There is so much more to discover, it's like one never lived. Really.
Acknowledgement: My stay in Bangkok was graciously supported by Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok.
