Today, I revisited the fried kway teow stall at Kim Ling 金岭 kopitiam in Taman Perling, which was one of my early posts when I started blogging.
I have not been to Kim Ling kopitiam for nearly two years and was a little surprised and touched that the lady boss remembered me :D - The stranger who popped up, ate, paid, chatted, took photos, left, and not seen again.
The lady boss wouldn't let me take a photo of her during my last visit. Today, I managed to have a picture of her at work :D
The fried kway teow was moist but not wet or drippy. Besides the noodles, there were bean sprouts (taugeh), egg, a couple of good sized prawns, cockles (seeham) and chives.
I didn't have any seeham during my last visit, so this time, I ordered extra ham :D
The tender kway teow noodles were a bit gummy and quite lively (as opposed to soft and limp). The dominant flavours were saltiness and savouriness, making the kway teow flavourful without being overly salty. The juicy taugeh were crunchy and the prawns were fresh. The chives and eggs added flavours to this fried kway teow.
There was no fish cake or lup cheong (Cantonese sausage).
A closer look at the caramelised kway teow noodles. The noodles were the small width kind, known as kway teow kia 果条仔. Kway teow kia has more coil and spring than the broader kway teow.
Wok hei 镬气 was not pronounced but more than char kway teow that I have tried in Singapore, so far.
The tender seeham was well cooked but not overdone.
All three of us felt that this was a good fried kway teow.
The hawker stalls at Kim Ling open from 7:00am to about 2:00pm. In the evening, a zhi char stall takes over.

Kim Ling Char Kway Teow in Perling is quite good. The stall is run by the mother n the son after her husband passed away a couple of years ago. The portion is quite big n is reasonably priced. Not too far from Kim Ling Restaurant, there is another coffee shop next to Pizza Hut, the Char Kway Teow there is quite good too. This place is unique as the shop-keeper, stall-owners PLUS most of customers especially in the morning are mostly from the North- u can hear from their distinctive Penangite accent..a good place to visit for those who miss Penang!
