WitBier Cafe in Singapore Kandahar Street
The Silver Chef invited me to join him for a beer and food tasting at WitBier Cafe in Singapore's Kandahar Street.
Beer and stout have been my preferred alcohol because of it's bitter sweet taste and fizz, especially drinking it cold after a hot hard run or game.
But, I remained a beer noob.
What piqued my interest to join The Silver Chef was the idea of food and beer pairings.
WitBier Cafe is located in Kandahar Street in the charming, historic Kampung Glam/ Arab Street district.
WitBier Cafe was the first watering hole to move here, starting a trend that brought a few others to follow.
WitBier Cafe stretches two shoplots and the interior was cosy, simple and inviting.
Unpretentious, WitBier Cafe is a comfortable chill out place.
We could choose to sit at the bar.
WitBier Cafe serves over 30 types of imported beers and has 4 imported labels on tap - Konig Ludwig Weissbier, Titje, Warsteiner Pilsner, and Konig Ludwig Dunkel.
We could also choose to sit outside along the five foot way, which is a really fun way to dine and drink, especially on a cool night.
WitBier Cafe has a simple menu of essential beer food.
Nachos with beef chili cheese (SGD12).
The crispy nachos were generic but the house made dip was beefy, cheesy and rich.
Grilled lamb rack (SGD18).
The rosemary marinated lamb were cooked to medium well doneness and served on a base of potato rosti.
Grilled beef steak (SGD16).
Grilled striploin cooked to medium well doneness.
Grilled marinated chicken wings (SGD10).
BBQ chicken wings slightly charred outside, juicy inside always works for me :D
The deep fried version was dryer and stiffer.
The sambal chili deserves special mention. It is homemade, fresh, pulpy with a sharp hot and tangy sting.
Nice.
This Otah Bruschetta (SGD10) is the winner for me today.
Though the toasted bread was a little dry, the thick slab of Muar style spicy fish and coconut otah was flavourful, meaty, juicy and tender.
The otah bruschetta went very well with beer too.

The Chimay Blue from Belgium. 9% alcohol, brown tea-like body and bittersweet taste with a caramel note.
I like it that WitBier Cafe is a no frills, no gimmicks place to have a few interesting drinks and simple, tasty food at competitive prices.
