Sarawak Kolo Mee in Johor Bahru, Permas Jaya BL Best Location 好地方咖啡馆
This no name Sarawak kolo mee stall in Permas Jaya is the favourite of my friends Corrine and Jessica. So, we came here today after cafe hopping to check this out.
This simple Sarawak kolo mee stall 沙捞越哥锣面 is in BL Best Location kopitiam 好地方咖啡馆.
Stall holder Ah Fook 亚富 used to be a wanton mee seller but switched to selling kolo mee after learning the ropes from his Sarawak sifu.
Ah Fook's kolo mee is garnished with char siew, lightly fried minced pork, chopped spring onions, lard crackles, and a blended soy and lard sauce.
The al dente noodles were well coated with slick savoury lard.
We enjoyed the tender yet crunchy noodles with the layers of savouriness from the soy, lard, char siew and minced pork.
The roasted char siew were lean and thinly sliced.
As a former wanton mee seller, Ah Fook's clear, medium bodied wanton soup was robust in bone flavour. His wanton skin was smooth and the minced pork filling was tender and flavoursome too.
The wantons complemented the kolo noodles well.
After finishing the kolo mee, we were so impressed that we decided to try also the braised chicken feet noodles.
The curly noodle texture was great - al dente and springy.
The blend of lard, soy and braising sauce was slightly too salty for my taste buds.
The crunchy crispy fresh lard crackles which Ah Fook cooks everyday were excellent.
I shall be back for the original flavour 原味 Sarawak kolo mee and also the "red" version using char siew drippings which we didn't try today.

Hi... Leela here. Was so tempted to eat kolo mee after reading this post. Went there last night, but he's moved to a different food centre. It's in the same row, at the corner. It's called Kakilang Kopitiam. He's kolo mee is awesome. He's open from 6pm to 3am everyday except on alternate Mondays. Hope it helps other makan kaki to locate his stall. ✌️
ReplyDeleteThank you Leela for the update. Appreciate it very much.
