CLOSED. Went to try EhHe Art Cafe's Hainese chicken rice set today.
Starting with the rice, it's cooked with Thai fragrant long grains. Cooked with savoury broth till nutty tender, the flavoursome rice grains coated with a very thin film of oil, were loose and separate easily. Nice.
The chicken come deboned with the attractive yellow skin on and bathed in a mildly flavoured blended sauce of light soy and sesame oil.
The chicken flesh was tender and juicy with smooth skin which had a gentle fresh chicken flavour.
The fresh chili sauce has a sharp spicy sting that lingers for moments on the tongue and back of the mouth. The ginger dip has a milder, ginger type of spicy, balanced with savouriness.
The tasty chicken broth completes the dish. I like it that the gently savoury broth has thin crunchy shreds of sweet cabbage and bits of fresh spring onion. The lovely flavoursome broth is made with old mother hens and doesn't use MSG - I enjoyed drinking it up.
I like EhHe's simple yet elegant Hainanese chicken rice set as every element from rice to chicken, soup and sauces are all done with a lot of care - resulting in a delicious serving of Singapore style Hainanese chicken rice here in JB.
We rounded up our lunch with cendol - a nice traditional cold sweet dessert that complements a chicken rice meal well :-D
Every time I come to EhHe Art Cafe, I must have at least one cup of their traditional "white coffee" because I like it's aroma and flavour.

The prices are more on the high side for Johor as half a chicken at MYR 34 is roughly the same as eating in Singapore.
ReplyDeleteI think it's reasonable pricing for a well appointed cafe with art decor, air con and full service in Johor. It is even lower than Singapore public hawker centre price where 1/2 bird is between SGD12 to SGD15.
DeleteTotally agreed it's comparable to prices in Singapore when compared to hawker and coffeeshop offerings. For Johor wise, it will be kind of on the high side for the masses, excluding the art decor and ambience.
ReplyDeleteYea bro.. i was expecting somewhere between 25-30 with rice for half chicken.. kinda pricy.. but well, havent tried it yet..
ReplyDeleteToo expensive to survive
ReplyDeleteI call it golden chicken the prize is too high π
