San Lou Kway Teow Kia Stulang JB Johor Bahru 三楼粿條仔

Back at San Lou kway teow kia stall after four years (2016) - food hunting far and wide kept me away before I came full circle. San Lou KTK is still at the same quaint location and the food is still as good as ever.

San Lou KTK is on a vacant lot alongside the busy Jalan Sulang Darat (at the junction with Jalan Pandan). It's actually a stone's throw from the JB CIQ (I actually walked here four years ago - I like to walk everywhere, if possible).

The stall and seats are set under zinc roofing held up with wooden poles. I like this kind of authentic, hyperlocal dining experience 😄

San Lou KTK has the full complement of KTK braised side dishes - pork intestines, tongue, skin, belly pork, stomach, eggs, tofu and more.

Ah Kang is the second generation owner running the stall now with his cousins. The stall was founded by his dad Mr Lee about 35 40 years ago at the Stulang three storey flats.

We had intestines, skin and tongue. The pork parts are braised till tender and has a nice bounce to the bite. They taste gently sweet, savoury and herbal. I like the well balanced gentle flavours here very much.

The flat rice noodles were soft and smooth. They were soaking in a mildly savoury, slightly herbal spiced broth laced with oil perfumed by frying shallots in it. The kway teow went very well with the pork side dishes and the broth was nice enough to drink.

Our total bill came to RM10 (2016 prices).

👉 This is one of my favourite kway teow kia stalls in Johor. The braised items have the right level of sweet savoury herbal and Chinese spice flavours. The hyperlocal ambiance made the experience even more enjoyable.
