CLOSED Seoul Restaurant on 621 Bloor Street West is one of the dozen of budget eateries in Toronto's Koreatown serving authentic home style dishes.

The interior setup is completely utilitarian, no frills. May not be the ideal place to celebrate your special dates but Seoul Restaurant is perfect for a tasty filling meal at very competitive prices.

From the full range of Korean staples, I again zeroed in on gamjatang or pork bone soup - my current food obsession ๐Ÿ˜‚ (Bear with me. My next food target is Korean style oxtail soup Kkori Gomtang ๐Ÿ˜„ )

Seoul Restaurant's gamjatang comes with the usual array of appetising "free flow" of banchan or side dishes. Just ask the staff.

The 3 or 4 large pieces of meaty pork spine bones stacked high in the deep stone bowl was mostly hidden by the nappa cabbage and bean sprouts piled on top.

There's just a bit of nappa cabbage as it was nearly all dissolved by boiling. But, there were lots of crunchy bean sprouts.

The meat was tender, juicy and naturally sweet. The soup with a red chili slick on top was watery and relatively heavy on salt and hot spices.

Seoul Restaurant's gamjatang doesn't have potatoes which would add some sweetness to the dish. It also doesn't have perilla seeds which would give a dish an interesting bite and a bit of toasty taste.

One of the best things I enjoy about gamjatang is to dig out the sweet tasting meat, soft tissues and cartilage from between the spine bone crevices.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Seoul Restaurant serves a gamjatang on par with the many Korean eateries along this short stretch of Bloor Street West. If you like your pork bone soup to be more robustly salty and spicy hot, then Seoul Restaurant's gamjatang is for you.
