Jalan Kayu Blanco Prawn Noodle House of the Blanco Court Quartet

I once thought Blanco Court prawn noodle was a trilogy but just found out that it is actually a quartet.

I have visited:

Blanco Court Prawn Noodle at Beach Road,

Beach Road Prawn Noodle at East Coast Road,

Jalan Sultan Prawn Noodle at Jalan Ayer.

To complete the quartet, we visited Blanco Prawn Noodle at Jalan Kayu this morning.

All the DNA of Blanco Court prawn noodle are there - prawn and pork combination, and there is a ngoh hiang or Chinese five spice fried fritter stall.

Beyond those gates, Seletar Camp and Jalan Kayu held many memories for me as I spent a year of my youth here. First with 160 Bn Singapore Artillery, and later Military Air Traffic Control Training School.

Jalan Kayu is beyond recognition. Thasevi roti prata, our daily bread, is still there but it is also beyond recognition (since 20 years ago ๐Ÿฅบ).

Blanco Prawn Noodle House is a popular pit stop for cycling groups who come to Seletar Camp for riding weekends.

Two of us, we both had the dry version. One with pork, the other just prawns, both $10 per bowl.

In my bowl, there were four forefinger sized prawns.

Fresh, blanched, soft crunchy and sweet.

Buddy shared a piece of pork rib with me. It looked dry and anaemic but was moist, tender and surprisingly naturally porcine sweet.

I appreciate it that they fry their own shallots. There was a bit of lard and a few lard croutons.

The sauce was spicy savoury, relatively flat. A bit more lard and shallot oil might make it more interesting. Next time, I shall ask for more lard. There's chili powder at the side but I didn't use it.

They gave a lot of noodles in the bowl ๐Ÿ˜…

Of the Blanco Court quartet, the Jalan Kayu one has the mildest soup, though it is still crustacean umami savoury salty. They also allow soup refill but you have to bring your bowl to the serving counter at the kitchen behind.

Jalan Kayu serves the relatively milder, flatter tasting prawn noodle compared to the other three in the Blanco Court quartet. We were here at opening time, so I wonder if the soup might gather more robustness as the day progresses.

Next time I come here, I will try the soup version with pork rib, skin and tail sans prawns ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‹ If you are having the dry version, ask for more lard and crouton, if you like it.
