Had always wanted to try Shima's Kitchen Malay nasi campur stall at Holland Drive Hawker Centre. It always has a long queue, especially during lunch time.
The idea is very similar to Chinese economic rice (chup chai png) stalls though the type of dishes are different. Dishes are precooked and displayed on trays. Shima's kitchen has an amazing range of Malay dishes. Customers point out their orders. Dishes and rice are served together on a plate.
(For breakfast, Shima's Kitchen serve their popular nasi lemak, lontong, mee siam, mee rebus, mee soto, etc.)
Today, buddy SN volunteered to queue for it. I happily volunteered to go get the drinks 🤭 Thank you buddy.
We left the queuing and buying to SN, who came back with a different combo for everyone.
Mine was fully loaded with chili quail eggs, bergedil, chili taukwa, kicap chicken, chili tempeh, and taugeh.
Buddies' one had taugeh, kicap chicken, bergedil, and spicy quail eggs.
The boiled rice came bathed in kicap manis sauce - a sweetened savoury dark soy sauce.
Or, splashed yellow with mild curry sauce.
The chicken was nice. Tender moist meat. The outside had a savoury sweet flavour with slight layer of toasty taste from caramelisation.
I love beansprouts in any preparation. This was lightly spiced, nicely stir fried, with sweet juices retained in their crunchy stems.
Bergedil or fried potato patty. Mashed potato spiked with bits of aromatics and browned outside. Nice savoury, sweet and flavours from aromatics in a soft tender potato mash.
Enjoyed my lunch a lot today. Thank you buddy!
Next time, I would look out for their beef rendang, ayam goreng (deep fried chicken), ayam hijau (chicken with green chili), sambal udang petai, etc. Get more of their fiery sambal 😁 Shima's is amazing for variety and taste. Prices of dishes are affordable and clearly listed.
