First morning in Chiang Maï after forty years, Marcus who knows the ancient city well brought us to Khao Soi Lung Prakit for breakfast. There are literally hundreds of khao soi noodle stalls in Chiang Mai.
Khao Soi Lung Prakit is a nondescript little shop located in a back street in Chiang Mai but it is one of the most famous.
Khao Soi Lung Prakit is also known as Khao Soi Netflix as the little restaurant was featured in an episode of Somebody Feed Phil Netflix series in 2018.
Opens at 9:30am, locals and even tourists started to trickle in, the moment Khao Soi Lung Prakit opens for the day's business.
Khao Soi is a popular noodle dish in Chiang Mai, a people's favourite just like bak chor mee in Singapore or Teochew kway teow noodle soup in Johor Bahru.
Khao Soi is a curry noodle dish served with sides of kiam chye (salt preserved vegetable), raw onion, and lime.
At Khao Soi Lung Prakit, there's option for chicken, beef or pork.
Khao soi is a form of curry noodle. It is rich coconut milk spiced with chili pepper, ginger, spices, and I believe there was something nutty in the curry.
The noodles were the broad yellow type like mee pok.
Blanched till a little soft with hardly any crunch left.
But, the dish was topped with generous amount of crisp fried mee pok noodles. Together, the mix of soft and crisp textures was enjoyable.
The spice marinated chicken were fried then stewed in the curry which added flavours to the curry and vice versa to the chicken.
The chicken was tender and moist inside, and had a bit of natural chicken sweetness which I like.
If the curry is not hot enough for you, there are little tubs of chili on every table to bring the spiciness quotient to your level. For me, the original curry was just right.
There's also the beef version which Marcus had.
Three of us, we had one bowl of khao soi each. I like it so much that I wanted to order another bowl right away but Marcus reminded me that we have many other places lined up to try for the day's food trail 😂
Marvellous reference for Chiang Mai / Lanna food
