Makan kaki kaki all getting this, so I joined the queue lo.
Me: ok ok... take food only... (took two shots)
Lady boss: Enough!
Me: ohk.... ๐๐คฃ๐
Thought to myself, maybe that's why this stall has a low social media profile despite a visibly healthy clientele.
Quick check Google reviews - there're only two reviews at the moment.
Only two Google reviews so far though the stall have been here for decades - reviews appear authentic and got average 4.5☆ rating. Can trust?
The only way to find out is to taste it ourselves ๐
I got a mix of fish and prawn, sans any carbs (they have noodles and rice options).
S$5 for this more or less pure fish and prawns without fillers. A few token greens and no bulk like industrial tofu cubes commonly seen elsewhere.
Incredible value in today's market.
The soup was watery clear and tasted slightly savoury with additional flavour layers from the fish and fried shallot. I guess the savoury flavour was from ti poh but didn't dare ask the lady boss to confirm ๐ฌ
The tender ikan batang fish was fresh, sweet, served in slices with skin on (which I prefer as I like the additional texture and subtle taste of fish skin).
There were 3 or 4 of these fresh sweet forefinger size prawns which was very generous for S$5.
Tau cheo, the quintessential, definitive Teochew condiment.
Robust umami savouriness which complemented the delicate natural sweetness of the ikan batang fish and prawn perfectly ็ป้

As far as I know, this is the best fish soup $5 can buy in Singapore. Wait.. This is actually better than some of the more expensive, social media famous ones. Okay... lah... savings leave a sweet taste in the mouth in these tighter economic times even though lady boss hurt my feelings a bit ๐ฅน
Ahh, my favourite at Kukoh Food Centre. These days I skip the prawns and check instead of they have Fish Milt &/or Fish Roe
