In Johor Bahru, I know of only one stall that sells Kway Chap 粿汁, thanks to Johor Yummy member Candle Tay's recommendation.
Mdm Kee had been running this little kway chap stall for over 20 years. Don't underestimate this humble little kopitiam stall - it is one of the best kway teow kia stalls in JB.
The hardworking and friendly Mdm Kee opens the stall from 5:00am to 3:00pm everyday - that's very long hours not even counting the preparation and cooking time.
We are thankful to Mdm Kee for bringing us good food at reasonable prices. A set of kway chap with mixed offal, which we can choose, costs a very reasonable RM5.
Mdm Kee makes almost everything she sells herself. She cleaned the pork offal very well and there is no even the slightest hint of any other taste other than the natural sweetness of the offal. The offal were tender yet bouncy to the bite.
Mdm Kee's braising sauce is lightly herbal and savoury. It has a very pleasant savoury flavour, very unlike the often overly salty taste in average kway chap stalls. The braising sauce is also not oily.
Mdm Kee peels and fries these fragrant onion crackles herself everyday.
The tangy and spicy chili sauce which Mdm Kee made herself everyday.
Mdm Kee's kway chap is definitely a Must Try. Thank you again Candle Tay for the recommendation.

hehe.....you're most welcome Tony. I'm glad you liked it and managed to have the kueh chap which not many KTK stalls serve as the common one is kueh teow kia only.....i'm such a regular there until one time i was at the shop and didn't order anything yet but she came and asked me 'how come you're not eating my kueh chap today?':p......fr Candle Tay
ReplyDeleteYes, so far this is the only kway chap I've seen in JB. Her pork offal were really well cleaned and nicely braised.
DeleteYou might want to try the pork porridge at the same place too - its really delicious! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I want to try the porridge soon :) Thank you :)
DeleteI just tried it this morning and its nice and clean.Chilli is also nice. Thanks for the introduction!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome and I am glad you like it.
DeleteThis is one of my regular brekky joints. I dont really fancy the KTK here as i pledge loyalty to Auntie Meng Fang (but hey one man's meat another's poison). Yes!!! The pork porridge here rocks! My friends from KL must have this whenever they are down. However there is Team A and Team B... they rotate. Slight difference only... used to very different. Another fav of mine is the Auntie selling pau, ccf etc.
ReplyDeleteThank you yi07 for your interesting comments :-D Will try the pau you mentioned :-D
DeleteHi Johor Kaki - My mum lives at Taman Tasik and there is a stall between the junction of Jalan Tasek and Jalan Lembah that sells the same Kway Chap as Madam Kee. Go in thru the Maybank's entrance and it is located at the Boon Gate. Ask anyone there and they will direct you to the stall where Singapore Registered Cars abound during the weekends
ReplyDeleteAmazingly further up at Tampoi; at the junction of Lorong Betik and Jalan Dato Toh Ah Boon. There is a lady that sells Kway Chap in the evenings. It is located at one of the Zhi Char(Tai Chow)Restaurant there. If you go there in the evenings you will not miss it.
I live in KL and one cannot find any Kway Chap Stalls for the love of money !
Hi Vietnam Mari, yes I have tried the KTK at Taman Tasik and I love it. I shall try the KTK at Tampoi that you suggested. Thanks and appreciate it.

Yo Vietnam Mari... there used to be a Kway Chap stall in Taman Sri Rampai Seksyen 2 Wangsa Maju circa 2005 (I used to live there b4 moving back to JB). They serve it slightly differently than JB style... they have everything in one bowl and as i wanted the taste of home i always ask the auntie to cut the big pieces into KTK ;p
ReplyDeleteHope u continue ur search in KL! ;p
Hahaha improvise KTK :))
