A.K. Koh Enterprise, the manufacturer of A1 brand of instant noodles started as a dried sour plum powder, and herbs and spices maker. So, it is no surprise that the spice and seasoning powder has a nice mild herbal fragrance when I cut open the sachet.

The noodles soaking in a hot tea coloured broth was ready to eat within 5 minutes.

The fine noodles were soft and springy. They were clean tasting and has the flavour of wheat.

The broth didn't have the body of real bak kut teh 肉骨茶 (of course). The flavour, taste and aromas were mildly herbal. Malaysian and Singapore bak kut teh lovers will find it familiar. Quite pleasant, overall. As there was no MSG added, I found the broth drinkable and finished up the whole bowl without feeling any side effects or aftertaste, afterwards.

(Note: Bak kut teh 肉骨茶 is a popular dish in Malaysia and Singapore. It is pork ribs cooked in herbal broth and served with steamed rice and Chinese tea.)

    2. Only herbal seasoning and noodles, that's why it's halal. What is there to disagree? Or did you expect to have some pork ribs inside the packet? If you think this is odd then vegetarian bak kut teh even worse, no meat at all.
