Curry Chicken at EhHe Art Cafe in Johor Bahru Jalan Tan Hiok Nee JK1364
One bite into this curry chicken at EhHe Art Cafe in JB, and memories of my first taste of curry chicken flooded my mind.
It was a primary school, end of exams party and my classmate's loving mum cooked a pot of curry chicken for us kids. I can't remember the exact taste - just the feeling of joy of first experience with the delightful taste which I remember to this day.
That day was also my first taste of those triangular white bread sandwich with mashed sardine spread and thin cucumber slices inside - but that's a story for another day. (Where can I get these now?)
I really don't know how to describe the flavour and aroma that set it apart - it's something in the blend of mildly sweet, gently spicy hot spices in the santan (coconut milk) laced chicken broth.
I tried this curry chicken twice, on different days. The first time with kueh teow (flat rice noodles) tossed in a savoury oily sauce. The curry chicken was great but the combination didn't really suit my taste buds. (Hence, I didn't blog about this curry chicken earlier.)
The second time, I ate the chicken curry with lightly toasted white bread.
Boomz.
(Borrowing that explosive phrase from an especially articulate Singapore beauty queen :-D )
Everything came together perfectly when I ate EhHe Art Cafe's curry chicken with toast bread i.e. the old way I know.
Tender, juicy chicken flesh with smooth velvety soft skin on. Aromatic curry in chicken broth thickened with coconut milk - the curry is gently sweet spicy on the tastebuds. The potatoes were perfect too.
I strongly recommend this curry chicken when you are in EhHe Art Cafe.
A bowl of sweet and cold cendol is the perfect complement to spicy curry chicken :-D
Traditional local fare in a comfortable art cafe works well for me.
