Desa Jaya Johor Bahru Char Kway Teow 新叶记咖啡店 JK1447
We followed this 22 Mar 2016 full page Sin Chew article to 新叶记 coffee shop in Taman Desa Jaya for a local favourite of simple fried noodles.
看报找吃。新葉記是 Desa Jaya, Jalan Danau 2 街方, 熟客所爱。 有很多种类的炒面。 您在附近的时候, 可以试试看, 和当地居民一起用餐。
The Sin Chew article has a big impact. We were here yesterday at 10:30am (published closing time 1:00pm) and everything was already sold out :-D So, we came back this morning at 8:30am. Business was brisk.
新叶记 specialises in Chinese style fried noodles - all types like hor fun, kway teow, yee mien, bee hoon, you name it.
We asked the friendly lady boss Ms Tan for suggestions and she recommended their wat tan hor 滑蛋河 (flat rice noodle in eggy gravy known as hor fun in Singapore).
The wat tan hor came piping hot with mild, well balanced savoury sweet flavours. The wok hei was slight and masked by the smooth eggy sauce.
The lady boss also suggested their version of "Singapore fried bee hoon 星洲炒米".
The piping hot portion was huge. The moist rice vermicelli was savoury sweet with mild and well balanced flavours.
Come to a Malaysian fried noodle place must of course taste their char kway teow :-D
Well executed, piping hot lightly laced with lard with some wok hei 鑊氣. We can ask for more lard if we prefer a more loaded rendition. Flavours were again mild and well balanced savoury sweet.
There were a half a dozen well done, fresh little blood cockles.
Mr Moo and family hail from Cheras (near KL) and had been running 新叶记 fried noodle stall for 12 years there. They moved to JB four years ago after their Cheras stall was resettled for development.
新叶记's noodles were fried with generous amounts of ingredients like these fresh, good size shrimps.
->> If you are in the Desa Jaya area, 新叶记's fried noodles is one of the local favourites you can try, where you would be mingling with friendly residents.

Think they've either moved or closed down. Was there last week and the shop was no longer there. Does anybody know their current status?
