We were food spotting in Taman Desa Terbrau when we stumbled upon this little street side nasi campur stall at the Sri Lanang public housing flats, at the foot of Block J.
This is a typical nasi campur stall with lots of colourful Malay spiced fish, chicken and vegetable dishes which are eaten with boiled white rice.
Che Mansor, the boss was busy the whole time frying basketful after basketful of ayam goreng berempah (fried chicken).
The fried chicken disappeared quickly to waiting customers.
Che Mansor's golden brown fried chicken has a slight crisp outside while inside it was moist and tender. We can taste the naturally sweet chicken flesh with mild aromatic spices on the crispy outside. No wonder Che Mansor's fried chicken is so popular.
My plate of sambal sotong, fried chicken, young jackfruit (nangka muda), and egg plant - total RM7.
I like it that Che Mansor's dishes are well balanced between sweet, savoury and spicy. I found many other nasi campur stalls tend towards tasting too salty but here at Che Mansor's it is just nice. Che Mansor's dishes are also not overly greasy.
Fried catfish, fried chicken and bitter gourd - RM6 altogether.
Fried catfish is one of my favourite dishes at nasi campur stalls. Here it is nicely spiced, slightly crispy outside and the sweet white meat is soft and moist.
I think I may have given Che Mansor a slight headache when I asked him what is the name of his stall. It is common for hawker stalls in Malaysia not to have a name. Che Mansor thought for a while and said it is Warung Pokok Tanjung pointing to the leafy, shady tree at his stall :-D
->> This is one of the best nasi campur stalls that I have tried in JB so far. It has a good range of traditional Malay dishes, deliciously prepared, and very affordable.
