I attended the media preview of the Ramadan bazaar buffet at Thistle Johor Bahru which will be hosted during the coming Ramadan holy month from 6 Jun to 4 Jul.
Thistle Johor Bahru's Executive Chef Huzaidy has planned a bazaar themed buffet of over 80 dishes with live cooking stations and hawker stalls.
The bazaar buffet will be held at the spacious Orchid Ballroom and also at Thistle's poolside area which will be dressed with traditional oil lamps and decorations. I think it will have the great balik kampung feel - the perfect setting for get togethers with families and friends.
Executive Head Chef Mahmood and his team will bring back many traditional dishes, the kind that nenek (grandma) cooks during the holy month of Ramadan.
Get ready for the main course with appetisers like Sotong Kangkung (spicy squid with greens), Tauhu Sumbat (stuffed tofu), Spicy Beef Lung, Ulam (salad), Kerabu (traditional rice), just to name a few.
There will be Rendang Rusa (spicy deer), Kambing Panggang (grilled lamb on a spit), Lemang (glutinous rice cooked inside bamboo hollow), Bubur Lambuk (meat porridge), Mutton Varuval (spicy fried mutton), and many more scrumptious dishes.
There will also be the ever popular Ayam Golek (grilled whole chicken on a rotating spit over red hot charcoal embers).
There will also be familiar favourites like Cereal Prawns. There will surely be something for everyone to enjoy.
Thistle JB's team has also prepared many local snacks and desserts like the Kelantanese specialty, Keropok Lekor which is made of fried sago flour and fish paste.
There will be many Malay kuih, too many to mention but all delicious and hard to resist.
Look out for the Pulut Serawa Durian.
It's sweet glutinous rice slathered with sweet creamy durian "porridge". There will also be Durian Goreng (fried durian fritters) and fresh durians (if you prefer to enjoy your durians el naturel).
There will also a wide range of colourful cakes, pastries, puddings and fresh fruits to suit every palate.
Enjoy it all with a cuppa of Thistle JB's famous Nesafe Tarik or Teh Tarik. There will also be the signature Khatirah Juice specially created by Executive Chef Huzaidy for the Ramadan bazaar buffet.
