CLOSED Restoran Al Hamid Cendol in Mersing, Johor
Well, well, well, how can I resist my favourite sweet dessert when I see it ๐ I am not that strong hehehe. Credit - thank you bro Chee Siong for your recommendation ๐
There is nothing like a good ol' cendol to beat the blistering heat of seaside Mersing.
Al Hamid Cendol in Mersing, Johor is on the favourites list of many people and it's easy to see why.
Layers of sweetness from the aromatic green pandan "worms", boiled red beans, fresh coconut milk and gula Melaka (palm sugar) served with shaved ice. Yet, the icy cool dessert is not overly sweet. No fanciful add-ons yet it takes some discipline to stop at one bowl ๐
Try also Al Hamid's pasembur (known as Indian rojak in Singapore) - the ingredients cucumber, bang kuang (jicama bean), tau kwa, egg, fried fritters etc. The crispy, spongy and crunchy fresh heap is slathered with a sweet slightly spicy sauce with soft crushed groundnuts. Delicious.
I was on my way to a lunch appointment, so I had to take a rain cheque for Al Hamid's roti canai. Looking at the size of that dough, I am guessing that it will be good.
Somebody's delicious treat on the way. I saw many people take away Al Hamid's cendol sloshing in plastic bags.
๐ Cendol Mersing on a push cart - we don't get push carts anymore but Al Hamid's no frills cendol is just as excellent.
