Dropped by at Yuzu Restaurant, a Japanese style casual, family friendly diner near to the AEON mall in Kulai. The menu consists of don, gozen, curry, ramen and udon - Yuzu's hearty servings are tasty, competitively priced and the environment is cosy.
The interior is air conditioned with contemporary "industrial" decor and equipped with simple but comfortable furnishings. The friendly service staff are youthful, earnest and attentive.
We like all the dishes we tried at Yuzu today and the most memorable for me are their noodle sets.
I like the clear watery looking broth which is packed with layers of savouriness from bonito flakes and shoyu sauce - simple is beautiful.
We have a choice of ramen, soba or udon to eat with the broth. My favourite is soba as I like it's soft grainy texture - when wet with broth, the taste of wheat blends with the broth's savouriness on the slurpy strands.
I love runny warm onsen tamogo eggs.
On hot Johor days, you might fancy a Zaru (cold) Noodle set with a choice of soba, udon and ramen - RM8.90.
We can also have our noodles in a set with various sides like this set with karaage (fried) chicken for RM13.90.
For rice lovers there are gozen sets - this is the Saba Fish Set - price RM20.90.
All Yuzu Restaurant gozen rice sets come with a small side of house made kimuchi. The pickled cabbage was crunchy, juicy, tangy and just mildly spicy.
There is also a side of tofu and a bowl of miso soup.
Salmon Teriyaki Set - price RM18.90.
Chicken Curry Set - RM15.90.
The chicken cutlet is fried to a nice crisp. The Japanese curry is made with vegetable stock and mild spices so it is sweet spicy. Owner Chef Jeffrey told me that no MSG is used to make this Japanese curry. I like Yuzu's Japanese curry.
Karaage (fried) Chicken Set - RM12.90.
Yuzu Restaurant also serves a number of side dishes they call "Appetizers".
This is their Potato Korokke - price RM7.90. It's a Japanese style croquette which is crispy outside and inside is a sweet pumpkin mash.
Takoyaki - RM7.90. Spongy flour balls with diced squid fillings dressed with mayonnaise and bonito flakes. A favourite among the younger set ๐
