Met up with KK and his team for lunch at the Yuzu outlet at Jalan Austin Heights 8/4 today. They come here for lunch every week as it is accessible, the food is nice and very reasonably priced, especially the daily lunch specials.
Yuzu is a small shop lot restaurant, so it can get quite crowded during lunch hours. Their food is tasty while prices are very competitive and the daily RM9.90 lunch specials are a steal ๐
After handing in our order slip, we helped ourselves with the free flow of kimchi at the self help stand.
This kimchi is better than that at many Korean restaurants - I am serious. Many Korean restaurants (even in Korea) just buy and serve factory made kimchi (from China). Yuzu makes their kimchi fresh and the juicy crunchy cabbage has an appetising savoury sweet spicy flavour. Try Yuzu's fresh kimchi yourself and you will know what I mean.
Green tea is also free flow at the self help station.
I had the chicken curry set (RM15.90).
The thin slab of chicken was breaded, fried to a golden brown crisp and eaten with a mildly sweet savoury curry with gentle spicy notes.
It's quite a nice rendition of Japanese curry with thick body and ample sweetness from carrots, potatoes and other vegetables.
KK and Shirley ordered this Nanban Fish Set (RM12.90).
Two persons ordered the same dish.... I should have learnt something there ๐
Seeing that creamy mayo blanket on KK's fried fish, I couldn't resist stretching out to share a bite of his lunch... ๐ The fish slab is breaded and fried to a crisp... which is nice but woohooo.... it was the generous spread of mayonnaise slathered on top that really got me.
The mayonnaise was very smooth with well balanced sweet, savoury, tangy and eggy flavours. The fish was so delicious because of the mayonnaise. I think Yuzu's mayonnaise blend will make any fried dish taste better.
Tony Wong had the Tariyaki Chicken set (RM12.90).
Kim had the Spicy Karage Chicken with Ramen set (RM13.90).
All these dishes are on daily specials on rotation basis at RM9.90 - a very good deal, I'll say ๐
Everyone gets a sweet dessert after their meals - it's a nice gesture.
Upon settling the bill, KK was given this 10% discount voucher for use at the next visit. KK said that Yuzu gives these vouchers on every receipt.
How much better can it get?
๐ Not exquisite Japanese fine dining, but at this price point, Yuzu is hard to beat for its generous servings of tasty Japanese style dishes. I think they found the sweet spot balancing price, quantity and quality. If you are around the Mount Austin area, Yuzu is a top choice for a work day lunch. Good place for gatherings and family outings - everybody eats well at wallet friendly prices.
At the moment, it is still free street side parking around here ๐

Had this too about 2 weeks ago. The meals were simple, yet tasted amazing. And cheap too haha.
