Since Bamboo Biryani was featured in the Malay Mail newspaper in May 2017, the shop which opened only in Feb this year was the rage from Klang to KL. The hype just kept growing as social media jumped on the bandwagon. It's the hottest nasi biryani in Malaysia now.
Egged on by readers and by my own curiosity, I dropped by Bamboo Biryani early today.
The queue had already formed 30 minutes before opening time. But, the kind owners allowed all of us to sit inside the restaurant while they get ready to start business.
From my seat along the corridor, I could smell the nice green grassy aroma of bamboo which were boiled in large aluminium pots with biryani rice and meat packed inside its hollow.
It's full house at Bamboo Biryani the moment it opens for the day at 12:00 noon.
The biryani is served by simply inverting the bamboo stem and pouring out its steaming hot contents onto a fresh banana leaf.
The long grain basmati rice was tender but a little on the wet and soft side. The grains were coated with spices and flavours but it was very mild tasting, with not much depth or layers. It also tasted slightly starchy sweet. There was little spice aroma.
The splash of chicken curry helped add a bit of flavour and spicy kick to the rice. The rice was not greasy.
There was a generous amount of mutton cubes buried in the mound of biryani rice.
Tender and only slightly moist, the mutton doesn't have much gamey nor spice flavour. There was little if any infused spice flavours in the meat. Folks who don't like lamb's gaminess will enjoy this mutton. Personally, I prefer my mutton to have spice flavour and lamb gaminess still present.
At RM15 a serving, I think this mutton biryani is reasonable value for money.
Chicken biryani costs RM12.
I like the vegetable sides which were still generously served free flow, the old way from a shining caddy.
My favourite was onion raita, which is chopped onion with yogurt. Sweet crunchy fresh pungent raw onion with sourish yogurt - it's a great appetiser.
The service is earnest and the owners are sincere in keeping customers happy despite the queue. The queue clears quickly and the owners respond cheerfully to customer requests.
๐ Overall, Bamboo Biryani is a nice biryani place but since my curiosity is satisfied, I don't think I will drive to Klang specially for it. It is a Halal option when I am in Klang. If you haven't tried it, come to Klang and taste it for yourself ๐
