You know right? Finding a decent fried hor fun at kopitiams in Singapore is really hard nowadays. Sometimes, the disappointment reaches the point of depression - sad for the downfall of a once ubiquitous comfort dish. So, whenever I stumble upon a good fried hor fun, it's a joyful thing which I celebrate and must share π
This fried hor fun is a menu item at the Gohtong Jaya zhi char stall in Malaysia Boleh! food court in Jurong Point, Singapore.
Gohtong Jaya zhi char stall is located in Malaysia Boleh's new extension wing, all the way inside on the right hand side. Look out for this mural of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and the zhi char stall is right there.
The fried hor fun comes in three sizes $6 (small), $12 (medium), $20 (large).
There's quite a lot of liau (ingredients) - pork, shelled prawns, fish cake, clams, greens etc of average freshness.
The winners here are the trinity of flat rice noodles, (two) sauces and the chef's skill in imparting wok hei to the noodles.
The good quality rice noodles imported from Ipoh are seared to a slight caramelised char outside sealing in the infused flavours from a blended dark sauce. The seared noodles are then smothered with another savoury sweet sauce made with soupy stock thickened with eggs (hence, it is known as wat tan hor ζ»θζ²³ or "smooth egg rice noodles" in Malaysia).
The smooth egg thickened sauce wraps the soft tender caramelised rice ribbon noodles - when combined they produce the signature layers of savoury sweetness with toasty flavour and aroma of good wok hei hor fun π
I enjoyed this fried hor fun.
π When I need a quick comfort meal, this fried hor fun in Malaysia Boleh! food court will make me feel happy as it has the taste, smell and feel that I like. If I am here at Gohtong Jaya stall for group meals, I will also order this fried hor fun along with the few dishes we share.
π Please share with us your favourite hor fun in Singapore and Malaysia.

U can try the nonya fried noodle. Damn nice. Mee goreng nonya style. Dried ban mian stall was good. Chendol was authentic. I call this taste of malaysia without the custom jam!
ReplyDeleteNyonya fried noodle... wow interesting! Will try it very soon. Thanks for the tip! Appreciate.
DeleteYes I like the Cendol too.
We should boycott this place. Why must we have this Malaysia Boleh crap in Singapore?
ReplyDeleteDear Meng, this food court featuring Malaysian favourite dishes is very popular as the food is tasty, prices are reasonable and it is comfortable. Do pay it a visit, you may enjoy it too :-D
DeleteManaged to take a photo of their menu this morning. Have anyone tried the King Prawn Ee Fu Mee? Is that the Sang Har Mee? I wonder how the prawns are like.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. I would love to try. It would be awesome if it is sang har meet :-D
Deletecan u try the JB 3 η±³η² ? i wonder is it like δΈζ₯Όη±³η²
ReplyDeleteOK hope it is good :-D
DeleteWe try the nonya fish head. Taste not nice and not well cook. At the end they bring back to steam again. And we wait for so long for the garlic pork. Service worse. We won't be coming back again. Won't comment to my friends and relatives.
