I first heard about Restoran Kari Kambing 40 Hari from my friend Puan Chong. Located on the old trunk road between Air Hitam and Yong Peng, Kari Kambing 40 Hari is a good stopover for the drive from JB to KL. We pulled over for breakfast today, arriving shortly after their opening time at 7:30am.
It's good to be early because even though the restaurant has a lot of seats, they fill up very fast. In particular, parking is quite challenging during peak hours.
When you are at Kari Kambing 40 Hari, go to the counter in front to order and collect your food. Carry your food over to the cashier on your right hand side for your payment.
We had a plate of Nasi Arab with mutton and another with chicken. The little Styrofoam bowls contain chicken curry and mutton curry which the restaurant generously provides free of charge. Total cost for the above was RM26.
Kari Kambing 40 Hari also serve their dishes dulang style i.e. on large serving trays. This option is popular with families and groups of friends. Sharing is more fun ๐
The saffron rice was tender, flavoursome and aromatic. The grains were long and beautiful, loose (do not cake together) and had the right moistness. The spice flavours from cardamon, cloves etc were mild, so we can enjoy the rice's natural sweetness. The rice was not greasy.
The chicken leg was oh... so... tender and juicy. The spice flavour was delicately subtle and there was a slight natural chicken taste (which I like). There is no spicy hot sting at all, so everyone can enjoy this chicken.
I quickly ordered another chicken leg (cost RM7) at the counter before the queue builds up by too much ๐
The chicken are cooked by embedding them in the saffron rice and they are cooked to the right doneness, infusing lovely flavours from the perfumed rice ๐
We enjoyed the achar as the pickled vegetables were fresh, crunchy, juicy and tasted sweet sourish.
The mutton was well infused with sweet aromatic spices which it was stewed in. The mutton curry's dominant flavour was sweet. The meat came firmly attached to large pieces of bone. The meat was flavourful but was stiff and chewy.
๐ Yong Peng town and Air Hitam town are convenient stopovers between JB and KL. Restoran Kari Kambing 40 Hari is a good option for the stopover to taste their famous delicious Arab style rice with spiced mutton and chicken.
