Selera Rasa at Old Airport Road Food Centre serves the best nasi briyani you can buy for $3.50 in Singapore. (Prices went up a notch this month after selling at $3 for years.)
There was a queue when we got here at 11am.
Many were regular customers like Milton who brought me here. The stall was founded by Tuan Jefri who runs it with his wife and daughters.
Selera Rasa serves chicken, mutton and fish beryani.
Everything here for $11.
For Milton and I, nasi briyani means mutton briyani ๐
So, we had two mutton briyani ($3.50 each) with two pieces of fried chicken at the side ($2 each). I love it that Selera Rasa serve their food in beautiful floral plates (instead of Earth damaging Styrofoam).
The long grain basmati rice was light and fluffy. The grains well infused with mild spices were not greasy.
Every mouthful was filled with delightful spice flavour and aroma. The cardamon was prominent, so was the nice tingling spicy hot aftertaste. A few hours later, I was still burping briyani spices, the "perfumed" gases escaping through my mouth and nose ๐
I wish there was more rice but it was a fair amount for a $3.50 serving.
Selera Rasa gives quite a generous chunk of mutton with each serving.
The meat was tender leaning towards firm and was still moist. There wasn't any mutton gaminess which is good news for many people (though personally, I would love some natural mutton taste).
The fried chicken was great value at $2 a piece. Marinated with spices and fried till brownish red outside.
The meat had quite a firm texture and most of the savoury flavour came from the marination outside.
๐ Selara Rasa serves the best nasi briyani that I know of which $3.50 can buy in Singapore. It's a secret little affordable indulgence for its fans at Old Airport Road Food Centre. Thanks Milton for the delicious recommendation.
