Old World Fried Porridge Menu

Old World's menu consists mainly of reasonably priced old school staples which appeal to the folks who work hereby. The dishes are done tastily so Old World has become very popular.

I was mind blown when I first tasted Old World's fried porridge at their first outlet @ BLK 747 Yishun last year.

The fried porridge was loaded with umami-savoury-sweet flavours with a bit of underlying toasty wok hei taste. Since then, Old World has won over a large following across the island, many ordering their fried porridge via delivery. Hence, Old World opened their second outlet in the east (Tampines).

I had thought that it would be very hard to out do Old World's fried porridge - that was before I tasted their braised mee sua.

One evening, Jimmy got us some Old World braised mee sua to share. One taste of the braised mee sua and it was dรฉjร  vu - again I was mind blown, this time by the umami-savoury taste of the starchy sauce that enveloped the soft-crunchy mee sua (rice noodle).

I made up my mind to come back to Old World at Tampines to taste more dishes and so here I am today with makan kakis ๐Ÿ˜„

Old World serves many small side dishes to complement their porridge, noodle and rice main dishes. Our eat gang chomped through a few.

This crisp-tender-chewy fried pork intestine is the perfect complement for the soft wet fried porridge and braised mee sua.

Owner-chef Jemmy is very proud of this spicy sourish zesty chili dip and kept encouraging us to try it with the fried pork intestine.

Large braised "intestine head" - no, you don't want to know its English name. Suffice to say that it was tender-spongy and tastes nicely sweet-savoury, and we enjoyed it.

Pork liver slices in a gently peppery, savoury, sweet soup. The thin slices of liver were fresh and were tender-crunchy to the bite.

We went a bit overboard, trying also their wat tan hor fun. It was nice with a bit of wok hei to complement the savoury sweet flavours of the rice noodles and all the ingredients like pork liver, pork slices, prawn, squid, greens, egg etc.

Nice to see this dish again - Mui Fan, a classic work day staple for busy workers. It is simply boiled rice smothered with the same sauce and ingredients as wat tan hor fun - everything in one convenient tasty dish.

    1. Hi Joanna, it is the rectum :-D The liver soup was mildly peppery, savoury, sweet. The liver was fresh and sliced thin. Personally I prefer thicker slice of liver. But it is still tender and crunchy. Overall, it is nice.
