✍ 27 Jun 2025. The legendary Yi Jia Zi food stall was high on our hit list and we descended on it the morning we arrived in Taipei 😄
So, here we were, thanks to Google map. It's a corner stall beside Qing Shui Temple.
Yi Jia Zi is a three decades old push cart food stall that found its fixed footing on a five foot way.
The line of people waiting to taste Yi Jia Zi's food come from all over the world now.
No indoor dining - you eat along the five foot way on foldable tables and stackable chairs. Cars and noisy mopeds rumbled and whizzed past as we ate, as this was a major intersection. Nobody minds, as this was part of the experience.
The menu has nothing fancy - all just Taiwanese staples loaded with carbs, grease and flavours 😜😛
Stewed pork belly soaking in oil jacuzzi.
Wah Kueh or literally bowl cake in their steam bath.
The tiny makeshift kitchen which churned out all the delicious dishes.
We only ordered these - wah kueh, goa bao ("Chinese burger") and kong rou fan (stewed pork over rice). We couldn't order more as we planned an audacious dawn till night food trail 😜
Zero-ed in first on the stewed pork belly over rice.
The pork belly was almost melt-in-the-mouth soft tender, saturated with juice rich in layered savoury sweet flavours. Don't worry for me, the fatty layer didn't feel cloying at all 😅🤭
Pickled cucumber and vegetable (mustard) stem provided a bit of tangy sweet crunch for balance.
The tender rice wrapped in oil from the pork belly delivered the essential carbs in a most delicious way.
It's one of the best kong rou fan I've tasted even though Yi Jia Zi isn't a stewed pork rice specialist.

Come, come, there is no place to run 😅
Now that stewed pork belly and complementary pickles slotted between sweet puffy flaps of a bun (instead of rice).
The wah kueh soaking in brown sauce.
Almost as soft and smooth as bean curd. The sweetish rice cake balanced with savouriness from the brown sauce. Nice but not special like the stewed pork belly rice and bun. Next time, shall try this again with a bit of chili sauce.
There are many more dishes such as pork intestine / blood curd soup, fish ball soup with you char kway, etc., I need to try 😀
One of the best moments of this Taipei trip.
Authentic Taiwanese staples, delicious, hyperlocal setting despite the presence of many tourists. Worth repeat visits.

✍ 24 Jan 2021. Simple staples of stewed pork over rice, stewed pork belly in a bun and fishball soup all done the quintessentially Taiwanese way. Cannot leave Taiwan without trying these dishes and Yijiazi 一甲子餐飲 is one of the best places in Taipei to get them.
Yijiazi 一甲子餐飲 is a popular corner eatery with customers served along the five-foot-way (corridor) on folding tables and flimsy light stools. But, nobody minds and in fact love the buzz and feel of the authentic street food experience. For decades, this famous humble eatery is packing in customers from the neighbourhood and from out of town (drawn here by its well deserved fame and delicious food). There's always a long queue at the busy shop.
Menu
Taiwanese Burger (Gao Bao)
Savoury Rice Pudding (Wa Gui)
Rice Dumpling (Zong Zi)
Soy Stewed Pork with Rice (Kong Rou Fan)
Braised Pork over Rice
Chicken Rice
Fish Ball Soup
Pig Blood Soup
Pig Intestine Soup
Pig Blood & Intestine Soup
When you are here, get their kong rou fan (stewed pork belly slice over rice), lou rou fan (stewed pork diced over rice), pork intestine & blood cube soup, and fishball soup which uniquely comes with you char kway (fried fritters) floating inside.
The signature kong rou fan come with a thick slice of stewed pork belly, pieces of stewed tofu, diced preserved mustard stem, a bit of chili pepper and slices of cucumber over boiled white rice.
It's a jumble of textures and flavours in a bowl with the tenderly juicy savoury sweet stewed pork belly as the centrepiece. The pork belly fat is sweet savoury and soft like jelly. All the rest contributed crunch, softness, sweetness, tanginess, subtle heat and zest to the taste symphony.
The fishballs in the soup are tenderly springy and have a slight fresh fish sweetness. The you char kway (fried fritters) have a bit of residual crispness despite soaking in the pork soup.
The pork intestines in the clear pork soup are tender but have a slight crunch to the bite. The pork blood curd cubes in the soup are soft like custard. They taste mildly savoury.
Another must try dish at Yijiazi is their gua bao or Chinese burgers. It's a hinged puffy spongy steamed bun with savoury sweet stewed pork belly slice, crushed toasted peanuts, sourish sweet preserved vegetables and fragrant cilantro slotted inside.
