We planned this meet up at Nummum Thai Kitchen near Upper Thomson MRT station some time back as we couldn't resist the pictures of the crab meat omelette Aaron posted on Facebook. Five of us, we had a delicious Thai style lunch and great company. Our total bill came to just under $30 per pax for all the food (with drinks included).

Nummum Thai Kitchen is just 5 minutes walk from Upper Thomson MRT station. Exit 3 (hope I remember correctly 馃槵 ), turn left after you exit the station.

It's a small shoplot restaurant, simply furnished but comfortable. It sports those shiny stainless steel, easy clean furniture you find in Thailand 馃槀 The atmosphere has a very relaxed, casual feel. Plenty of cheerful banter (code word for a bit noisy 馃槀 ) all around 馃き

First dish, Tung Hoon Salad. We all liked the sourish, savoury, spicy hot flavours which were infused in the gently soft-crunchy glass (mung bean) noodles. Good appetiser, great start to lunch.

Next, Grilled Pork Skewers (moo ping).

Nummum's moo ping reminded me of the legendary Tiong Bahru Ah Pui satay during its heyday. Freshly made in house, both have a strip of fat in the middle of the skewered pork.

The moo ping was soft and juicy with a strip of porcine sweet, soft fat in the middle. The well marinated minced pork skewer tasted sweet savoury with a subtle toasty flavour and wasn't overly sweet. Nice.

Grilled Pork Neck.

Savoury salty and a bit toasty, almost like lean char siew kind of texture. I would prefer it sliced thin and had a layer of fat which would have added some porcine sweetness.

This Tom Yum Seafood Soup was jolly good. I mean it was savoury sourish spicy at just the right intensity for me. I was in Bangkok and Phuket twice last month and felt that the tom yum that I had there were generally too salty for my liking. This tom yum by Nummum tasted just right for me. It also had a rather sharp spicy sting which I enjoyed.

Now, the Crab Meat Omelette made famous by the legendary Jay Fai goggle lady in Bangkok.

I have never eaten the crab meat omelette by the Jay Fai lady before 馃ズ but have tried Nhong Rim Klong - another famous crab meat omelette place in Bangkok. I would say Nummum's rendition compares favourably with that by Nhong Rim Klong of Bangkok (which is actually a crab and egg specialist).

Okay.., Nhong Rim Klong's crab meat omelette is better filled out and fuller with eggs. I like their moistness and egginess. Though a tad drier than Nhong Rim Klong's, Nummum won in the crab meat department because its crab meat felt fresher and I could taste what the Chinese call 楫懗 (umami flavour) more. The texture of the crab flesh was also subtly springier because it was fresher (I felt lah).

Don't miss this 馃 馃嵆 馃槵

Stir Fried Yellow Curry Crab. Not very photogenic. The curry smothering the crab meat tasted sweet savoury with spice but no heat, and it masked much of the crab meat's subtle fresh taste. Still a nice dish though, thanks to the fresh taste and delicate subtle crunch from the crab meat. Works very well with plain white rice.

Steelpot Thai Vermicelli Prawn.

This dish is all about the tung hoon (mung bean noodles) which infused all the umami savouriness from the prawn and sauces, and provided its own subtle sweetness to the dish. Love it.

We ordered Pad Thai because I am looking for a Pad Thai that I can keep returning to in Singapore. The rice noodles were the slightly thick and springy-chewy type (which I don't like 馃槢 ). The sauce gave off a nice caramelised savoury sweet aroma but it tasted slightly too sweet for my liking. Guess I have to keep on looking 馃槵

I never liked Thai milk tea because I find them mostly too sweet with too much milk. But, Aaron said we must try this because Nummum's version is very good.

He is right. The tea was not too sweet, the milk was smooth, and I can taste the tea's subtle tannic bitterness and smell its fragrance. Pro tip from Aaron - drink the chilled milk tea straight from the bottle without using ice as that would dilute the tea and its taste. He's right again 馃槃

If you are craving Thai style crab meat omelette (like me), Nummum has a good one for you (and me 馃槵 ). Its crab meat actually has the edge over those I tried in Bangkok. I also like the moo ping and tung hoon (glass noodle) dishes here. The tom yum is nice too.

Nummum would be among the top of my mind if I looking for a nice mid-range Thai restaurant in Singapore. I look forward to trying other dishes here in the future.
