Long ago, I recommended GIANT Caterers' restaurant when it was co-located with their catering kitchen in Plentong, Pasir Gudang. Now, GIANT has two full fledged restaurants, one in Tampoi and another in Nusa Bestari.
Delicious food at good prices, that hasn't changed since I first tried GIANT in 2013 (more than 10 years ago ๐ฎ ).
Yesterday, we had lunch at GIANT Kitchen's Nusa Bestari restaurant. It's a very convenient location with street parking at the doorstep. Easy to locate, just a few doors from MR DIY handyman shop and only about 10km from JB CIQ.
The decor is colourful, toned down lighting, air conditioned, heavy sturdy furniture, clean, very comfortable.
Head chef Sameem Mohd who leads a team of five chefs, hails from Odisha state in India. He is an expert in both North and South Indian cuisine.
This was an invited tasting, so we had a lot of dishes. One of my favourites was the signature Dulang Set of nasi briyani with lamb shank and tandoori chicken.
The basmati rice was light, fluffy, aromatic, gently but well spiced. Neither wet nor greasy. Delicious and well complemented by the lamb shank which was smothered in a thick moist blanket of robust masala.
Not pretty but the meat and visceral fat were fall-off-the-bone tender. No gamey taste or smell (I would love a little actually) but it was well infused with savouriness and spice flavours.
Freshly grilled, well marinated and seasoned tandoori chicken in the biryani set.
GIANT Kitchen has a wide range of biryanis such as with chicken, fish, etc. I would love to try more of them.
Chef Sameem is proud of his unique Sizzling Banana Leaf Combo Biryani. The spiced rice comes wrapped in a banana leaf bundle on a searing hot plate.
The banana leaf and rice sizzling on the hot plate, puffed hot aromatic steam when unwrapped.
Nice flavours and aromas from the spiced rice, chicken, mutton and prawn though the steam moisten and soften the rice a little.
Chicken Bukhara. Not very photogenic. Chunks of grilled chicken smothered under a thick creamy spice and cashew nut sauce.
Love the nutty sweet savoury mild spice flavours of this dish. My first time having this but from now on, I will order this dish if it is on the menu.
Perfect with naan or rice.
Seafood Mix Platter.
Tandoori Mixed Platter. Shish kebab, malai kebab, kasturi kebab and chicken tikka.
Made for the tandoori chicken lover as we are able to taste different spice and seasoning preparations in one convenient order.
Shezwan (Sichuan) Combo Fried Rice. Chicken, prawn, mutton, etc., and hot spices infused into the tender nutty grains of rice.
The Sichuan fried rice came with this sambal.
GIANT Kitchen make their own sauces including this spicy sweet sambal with strong anchovy and dried shrimp umami flavour. Better than at most nasi lemak places.
It takes skill with the wok and fire to get the flavours and wok hei infused into the spicy hot rice.
GIANT Kitchen offers a wide range of different freshly kneaded, baked on order hot naan. We tasted an assortment of garlic, laccha, double cheese, and aloo naan.
GIANT Kitchen's naan dough are all freshly kneaded from scratch with flour in the kitchen.
Freshly baked, scorching hot from the tandoori oven.
Pani Puri Set.
Sizzling Brownie. The rich sweet moist soft brownie was home baked, topped with vanilla ice cream, almond chips, rainbow sprinkle (candy) and doused with chocolate lava.
Nice blend of contrasting hot cake and cold ice cream, sweet ice cream and bitter chocolate. They had to pull the dessert away from me ๐คฃ
I can just come into GIANT Kitchen, have this Sizzling Brownie with a hot coffee or tea for a sweet blissful break time.
Badam Milk. Hot milk spiked with aromatic spices and nuts such as almond. My first time and I love it. A bit esoteric but a reflection of the level of authenticity in Indian cuisine at GIANT Kitchen.
Oreo Milkshake. I struggled to stop and let this go ๐ It is what it is. Sweet and creamy, evilly addictive.
GK Blue Lime Mojito. I only wanted to take a sip to know what the blue tinted drink is about. I couldn't stop till I emptied the sweet sour fizzy refreshing cold drink ๐
Scan to see the whole up-to-date menu at GIANT Kitchen Nusa Bestari. Prices are competitive. Take your time to go through the amazing range of dishes ๐
We enjoyed ourselves at GIANT Kitchen today. I have to come back to try other dishes in GIANT's incredible menu.
