Md. Zain Cendol | Giant Hypermarket Southern City, Jalan Suria 18, Taman Suria, Johor Bahru ☏ +6017 728 6885 ๐ 11am - 9pm |
During our dawn till dusk JB food trails, we always have this happy problem of where to chill and let our tummies take a breather between lunch and dinner. We usually go to a mall to walk off some calories, or a cafe to cool our heels.
It's just a small kiosk outside the GIANT Hypermarket but the enterprising owners have turned it into a must stop and check-in spot for JB day trippers ๐ It's a small space but its social media presence is huge, especially on Tik Tok.
Owner Siti is from the family that runs the popular Md. Zain brand of cendol in Johor Bahru.
Md. Zain Cendol has many outlets outside JB's Maybank branches such as at Jalan Meranti Merah off Tebrau Highway and Jalan Pingai in Taman Pelangi.
The simple menu with everything on one page - from biasa (basic) starting at RM5 to istimewa (special) at RM10.
One order (RM5), asked for three spoons and three persons take hundreds of photos and videos ๐ Good value but don't be like Tony lah..... ๐
Anyway, everyone was very nice and friendly ๐
The cendol came in a small nostalgic enamel bowl. The contents overflowed onto the table as the ice melted while we shot the cendol from all possible angles ๐
The cendol came with shaved ice, rich coconut milk, palm sugar and choice of different toppings. We chose the boiled red beans.
The sweet coconut milk was lightly salted, so it has a balancing saltiness - I prefer it this way.
The green pandan infused rice noodles were tender though not soft. Very subtle sweetness which is good as the dish was already sweet from the coconut milk, palm sugar, and boiled red beans.
They were generous with the sweet boiled red beans.
Md. Zain Cendol is always a treat (I am a regular at their "outside Maybank" outlets) and this picturesque space makes this Taman Suria outlet a must check-in place. The nostalgic hip space evoking sweet memories make the sweet dessert sweeter than more sugar.
We let our imagination feed our social media ๐
Childhood memories. Soon, paying with cash would be a memory too ๐
What were you doing on 29 January 2008?
Actually, nowadays I prefer slow travel, so going by slow coach is an attractive option.

ReplyDeleteWill definitely go one of these days. Recommended by many friends too.
ReplyDeleteYou must try the Cendol here https://maps.app.goo.gl/byTTu2v7KE6pm58V6 it's a no name food truck type Cendol, but it's the best for me. You can see the Cendol truck at Google Street View. Not sure of the opening hours though, but I usually go there around 1:30pm weekdays
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tip!
