When I first heard that a Korean-Indian fusion restaurant called Curry & Kimchi Lounge opened in Johor Bahru, my first thought was "can meh?".

Puteri Cove is an emerging watering hole in the west of Johor Bahru. Restaurants, bars and cafes are sprouting up here to cater to the needs of locals and expats coming here in search of good food and drinks in a nice environment and atmosphere.

Curry & Kimchi Lounge opened for less than a month here (in Nov 2024), and already has a growing following.

The menu is still developing so this digital version is most convenient - check out the dishes, drinks and prices.

There are three categories - Indian dishes, Korean dishes, and Indian-Korean fusion dishes created by the restaurant's creative chefs.

We started with their top selling mixed platter from their tandoor kitchen.

Four kinds of meat in the mixed platter - chicken, beef, lamb and salmon fish. Marinated in their special Korean-Indian BBQ sauce, skewered and grilled in a tandoor oven.

My favourite was the chicken tikka - the chicken meat so soft and moist was sweet as well as infused and coated with savoury, sweet, and spicy flavours from the housemade special Korean-Indian fusion sauce.

The best way to enjoy this popular dish is to wrap the BBQ meat with optional pickled ginger, kimchi, mint chutney or dhal chutney, in leafy lettuce, then fold it into a naan.

Voila! A delicious dish combining Indian and Korean characteristics! Interesting mix of textures from the freshly baked naan, fresh crunchy lettuce, and warm soft tender juicy chicken tikka.

A good way to get initiated into this unique new genre - Curry & Kimchi is the first and at the moment, the only Indian-Korean fusion restaurant in Johor and possibly Malaysia.

Prawn Squid Pancake.

I enjoyed the seafood pancake slices with two types of Korean sauces and dhal chutney.

Topokki Beef Varuvel.

The beef stir fried with Indian spices and Korean sauce blend was tender and well infused with robust savoury salty spicy flavours.

The topokki (rice cake) was firm tender chewy.

Indian-Korean fusion Fish Head Ssamjang Kimchi Claypot Curry.

It's a halved ikan merah fish head in a thick sauce of Indian spices and Korean ssamjang sauce. Lots of ingredients like brinjal, long beans, Korean style fish cake and fish ball, etc.

The sauce flavour was robustly savoury salty from the sammjang and overlaid with Indian spice flavours. When eaten with plain boiled rice, the savoury salty taste was nicely moderated.

If you prefer just Korean without any tweaks, then try out their Korean BBQ fried chicken. Savoury with slight spicy hot flavours infusing and wrapping the tender chicken meat.

Chicken Dumpling.

Nice savoury flavour with highlights from aromatics but the chicken meat was blended a bit too fine for my liking.

Puteri Cove is an increasingly popular watering hole. Curry & Kimchi Lounge offers a good range of cocktails, mocktails, soju, whisky, beers, etc.

Curry & Kimchi's signature mocktail Puteri Sunrise. A zesty blend of orange, pineapple, mango and Greenadine (pomegranate syrup).

Signature Kegtail with vodka.

If you love Indian cuisine, Korean cuisine or am a curious foodie who wants to try Indian-Korean fusion, check out Curry & Kimchi Lounge. See what is happening at the Puteri Harbour area with Puteri Cove, the new focal point of dining and entertainment in the west of Johor Bahru.

Curry & Kimchi has regular attractive specials like Ladies Night, Live Band, etc.
