Ho Garden Yong Tau Foo in Taman Munsyi Ibrahim near Paradigm Mall 合家园客家传统酿豆腐 ☏ +6016 730 4134 ☏ +6014 317 9136

Ho Garden | 28, Jalan Dian 8, Taman Munsyi Ibrahim, 81200 Johor Bahru ☏ +6016 730 4134 ⏰ 7:30am - 3pm (Mon off)
Stumbled upon a good yong tau foo joint hidden away in Taman Munsyi Ibrahim. It reminds me of the bests of Ipoh (the Ho family is actually from Seremban and running Ho Garden for over 12 years).

Ho Garden is at Jalan Dian 8 behind and about 500 metres from Paradigm Mall off Jalan Skudai.

By the time I passed Ho Garden, I already had two meals earlier 🤭

Went in to check anyway. Inside, the decor and furnishings were basic but the air conditioned interior was bright, clean and comfortable.

Ho Garden occupies two shoplots.

Take a bowl and tongs, and pick your yong tau foo items - it's the same drill at almost all YTF places in Malaysia and Singapore.

Wide range of items filled with either minced pork or fish paste. Eat it with your choice of clear soup, curry, or sauce ("dry").  For carbs, there's various options of noodles and rice. They have house made (spinach & pumpkin) noodles and also rat tail noodles.

Comprehensive self help condiments counter with savoury, sweet, and spicy hot sauces to spice up your YTF life.

I chose clear soup and no carbs as I was pretty full already.

First bite, fried long bean wrapped with fish paste.

I was surprised and delighted by the freshness and crunchiness of the long beans. The fish paste was nice too, tasting fresh and sweet savoury.

Fried bitter gourd stuffed with fresh minced pork.

The fleshy gourd and minced pork were both soft tender, and I can taste their natural sweetness and freshness. Of course, the bitter gourd had a nice tannic taste but the good kind (to me).

Bitter gourd sliced tissue thin but retaining all its crunchiness and sweet flavour. The bitterness was subtle, barely discernible.

More bitter gourd, this time filled with fish.

You should have guessed by now that I love bitter gourd's bittersweet flavours. I also like its fleshy crunchy texture.

Nice fresh fish and bitter gourd that is more sweet than bitter.

Crunchy fresh lady finger filled with fresh minced pork. Yeah, I used the word fresh a lot in this article.

So fresh 🙄 and nice.

Chili pepper filled with fish paste.

The chili pepper was so crunchy! I mean most of the time, YTF chili is limp but at Ho Garden it was delightfully crunchy.

The clear soup was sweet savoury with flavours of all the various YTF items inside.

I like the items I tried at Ho Garden today (it's only a small selection from the restaurant's much wider range). The food was clean tasting and delicious. The textures reflect the freshness of the ingredients. The prices were competitive too. I paid RM13 for today's food and drink. Will be back to try more items.

  2. Bitter gourd one of my favourite vegetable. In fact I had it for my dinner last night fried in egg omelette.

  3. I am just salivating at the greyish and brownish fish paste fillings. Definitely made with 马鲛鱼 and minced pork. Paired with crunchy bittergourd… Yums!😋
