This was kaki kaki Shirley's Thursday haunt which she shared often on Facebook. She said Thye Hong, and I always assumed it was the popular fishball stall at Ghim Moh food centre which I am also a big fan.

Was at ABC Market last week for an event nearby. Noticed that this wanton mee stall was enjoying a long queue in the territory of media darling Fatty Cheong, which I enjoyed very much too. Long queue in the same small hill as another wanton mee tiger must mean this Wah Leng stall was no small kitten 🤭

Was a bit sad that the cuttlefish ball stall, Dong Fang Hong in Hong Lim hawker centre closed suddenly (in Jul 2025).

Fortunately, found another one thanks to Slyvia, who pointed me to 麥士威83号 stall at Telok Blangah Crescent hawker centre - this is most likely the only cuttlefish ball stall left in Singapore now.

When one door closes, another door opens when you look elsewhere.

Rasa Singapura Food Centre • Bold, Successful Idea to Showcase the Best of Singapore Hawkers to the World

Rasa Singapura was one of my fondest memories of Singapore hawker centres. But, it's not the usual hawker centre.

It was a bold experiment by Singapore Tourism Promotion Board (STPB) to abashedly showcase Singapore's street food to international audiences, elevating it to a tourism product. Remember, this was the 1970s, the Singapore nation just a decade old, and street food had not yet earned the respect it enjoys today. It was a long way from cheap affordable sustenance for the masses to becoming icons of Singapore identity.

Rasa Singapura Food Centre was one of the key stepping stones, milestones of our nation building journey.
