Whenever I am around Jalan Maju, JB's "newspaper street", I will pop by the corner kopitiam at the far end (opposite Rong Shu Xia Kway Teow Kia).

Met Yap SC at a Johor Arts Festival event, and inevitably, we exchanged notes on new food finds in JB 😄 SC told me about this nasi briyani place in Taman Pelangi which he had been to 3 or 4 times recently. He said a few things but when he mentioned country goat and goat intestines, I went "OKOK I must go try this tomorrow" 😂

San Lou Dry Bee Hoon 三楼干米粉 is one of Johor Bahru's iconic dishes. I first tasted and blogged about JB San Lou Dry Bee Hoon in 2011, and have eaten it numerous times since. Since 2011, I had hoped to interview Ah Kaw 亚九, the creator of JB San Lou Dry Fried Bee Hoon. I finally met the legendary hawker today, after more than 7 years.

Restoran HW Wanton Mee used to open 9 to 5 - I mean 9pm to 5am 😄 It's a favourite haunt of JB's night owls.
(Update: This night owl wanton mee now operates "family hours" 11am - 10pm [Mon off]. )
Ah Chuan in JB is One of my Favourite Fish Soup Stalls 阿全鱼湯⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you have been following my blog, you will know that I am a big fan of simple fish soups. I find a good bowl of fish soup with a bowl of plain white rice very satisfying and comforting. One of my favourites is Ah Chuan in Johor Bahru - it is just a small stall in Starfood coffee shop in Taman Pelangi where the (Monday and Thursday) morning market is located (so parking can be challenging on those days).

Buddy KK told me about Mamalicious Nyonya House at Jalan Sri Pelangi where the Pelangi pasar pagi is located (on Mondays and Thursdays). "Meet you at 7:30am because later most of the nice kueh will be snapped up by aunties doing marketing" KK warned me 😄 So, I set my alarm clock to make sure that I got here early.

We were exploring Taman Pelangi for food and decided to check out RMB Noodle House. We passed this corner noodle shop a few times before and there were always customers inside - often it was full house.
Tai Hong Kopitiam Lei Cha Fun in Taman Pelangi 大丰擂茶
Johor Bahru and nearby Kulai town are good places to get the Hakka staple Lei Cha Fun 擂茶飯 (also known as hum cha 咸茶). There are many lei cha fun stalls and this dish is in many restaurant menus in JB. It says a lot, that with so many lei cha shops around, Tai Hong Kopitiam 大丰擂茶 serves the favourite lei cha of many Johoreans.
