I haven't been back at Heng Kee kopitiam for Hakka mee for over three years. It was one of my first stumble upon good food finds when I just started blogging JB food. Always wanted to come back but other exciting new food finds kept me away.
Not much have changed really at Heng Kee. The same sun bleached signboard is still there. The kopitiam was busy as ever.
Ah Song Hakka mee stall 亞松客家麵 is still here and it is still run by Edmund, the youthful boss.
We ordered a large serving at RM7 (RM8 minimum serving in 2022). It comes with noodles with simple chopped chives and fried / braised minced pork topping.
Lovely aromatic soft juicy fried / braised minced pork topping.
Giving the noodles a good toss in the shallot oil and fried / braised minced pork. The noodles were cooked soft al dente with a nice gentle bite. The noodles were delicious with the rich tasting blend of aromatic shallot oil, lard and minced pork. I enjoyed this very much.
The accompanying bowl of soup was loaded with fish balls, fish roll and stuffed tofu.
Light bodied slightly savoury sweet broth.
The bouncy and naturally sweet handmade fish ball that reminds me of Hershey chocolate kiss 😝 The flavours are gentle and well balanced - not overly salty.
Fried fish ball.
Fried tofu with fresh fish stuffing.
Everything in the bowl of soup was nice and my favourite was this crinkly fried fish roll. Nicely soft and chewy bite with pleasant natural fresh fish sweetness.
Some crunchy fresh greens complete the delicious dish.
Fresh tangy sharp spicy hot chili. I didn't use it much as I like to taste the natural flavours of the fresh fish.
The camera shy boss, Edmund. I first met him during my last visit in 2012.
All the fish balls, cakes and rolls are made with fresh yellow tail fish 番薯鱼 like these.

👉 Hakka noodles are hard to find in JB and fortunately Ah Song serves a very good one. Fresh fish balls, tofu, stewed minced pork and noodles done al dente i.e. springy to the bite.
