Best Roti Prata Canai Places in JB Johor Bahru
Singaporeans love their roti prata (known as roti canai in Malaysia). That's why many were up in arms when roti prata was missing from the Bib Gourmand Awards from the inaugural 2016 Michelin Guide Singapore.
Across the Causeway, roti canai is a big thing in JB too - the Indian staple is at every street corner warung, restoran and 24-hour Mamak shop. One of the most popular is at Restoran Selera Selatan.
Johor Jaya Rosmerah 2/13 的印度煎饼好松脆, 又不油腻。沾了甜辣带香的咖喱和 sambal 更加好吃。可说是新山最受欢迎的印度煎饼之一。朋友们不妨试试。
Selera Selatan's well browned kosong (plain) bread is light, slightly fluffy and crispy like a cream cracker. It doesn't have the cloying heavy greasiness of average roti canai.
My favourite at Selera Selatan is the roti bawang, bread with chopped onion.
The thin bread wraps crunchy juicy bits of sweet fresh onion in it's flaky crispy folds.
Roti telur - bread with fresh egg in it's crispy envelope.
Selera Selatan's curry dip is watery but it is flavoursome with mild spicy sweetness.
In Malaysia, roti canai (prata) is also eaten with sambal chili. Restoran Selera Selatan's sambal chili is watery, sweet spicy with pronounced anchovy taste just like those at good nasi lemak stalls.
I love eating my crispy roti with sambal chili.
The boss, Encik Farul does all the kneading, flipping and frying, so we can be sure of the consistency of every roti prata at Restoran Selera Selatan.
👍 Selera Selatan's thin crispy roti canai is one of the best in Johor Bahru.
