Many of us in Singapore and Malaysia grew up with Ramly burgers which are synonymous with street burgers here. On our way back to the hotel after a sumptuous dinner in Kluang, our host Jit Pang instinctively pulled over when our van passed Fendy Burger.

Our host Lim Jit Pang is the grandson of the founder of the legendary Kluang Rail Coffee (established 1938). The Lim clan is well established in F & B in Kluang town.
Whenever the Lim clan get together, especially when family return from overseas, they will often round up the evening at Fendy Burger. They even gather here after Chinese New Year Eve reunion dinner ๐ Jit Pang wanted us to taste his family's favourite street burger.
Youthful looking Encik Fendy founded his burger stand 34 years ago in 1985. Today, Fendy Burger is the undisputed, most famous street burger in Kluang, if not in Johor. You can order your burgers in Mandarin as Fendy is more fluent in the language than me ๐
Like all Ramly burger stands, Fendy uses chicken and beef patties from Ramly but customises them to create his signature burgers.
Fendy uses only double yolk eggs for his fried egg - something I have not seen before.
Fendy Burger is generous with their greens - lettuce, cucumber, raw onion etc.
Each street burger stand have their own mayo blend, spicy and sweet sauces, and salty spicy powders.
Jit Pang got this burger for us to share - I couldn't remember which version it was, but it tasted nice. Nice savoury tangy spicy flavours with underlying sweetness, beefiness and egginess. The fresh raw vegetables added crunch and balancing green taste to the burger. The soft puffy bun which collapsed when we pressed it with our greasy fingers, tasted sweetish. Indeed, it's a nice street burger.
Recommended for you ๐ If you touch your heart and Ramly burgers move you more than the likes of Shake Shack or In-N-Out Burger, then make sure to check out Fendy Burger when you are in Kluang.
Truth be told, I've eaten at Shake Shack in New York City and Dubai, but my heart still belongs to the humble street burger, especially well made ones like Fendy Burger.
Thanks to Evonne Lyn Lee, the host of Jalan2 Makan2 Masak2 trips to Kluang for bringing us to many interesting "Bat Town" places. If you like an eating and cooking tour of Kluang like ours, contact Evonne via Facebook private message.
