Kopilicious is one of the several popular traditional Nanyang coffee joints in modern cafe settings in JB now.
Kopilicious started in Taman Molek about 10 years ago with a bang (because of their kopi peng).
Today, Kopilicious has an equally popular larger branch outlet in Taman Sentosa.
To me, they are slightly elevated traditional coffee shops because they still have the charm of kopitiams but with air con comfort.
Kopilicious' menu is typical of what you will find in most traditional kopitiam or coffee shops in Malaysia. At the parent outlet, the menu fits in just two pages but all the local delights from mee siam, nasi lemak, curry mee to kaya toasts are there.
The Sentosa branch has a bigger menu which includes Western and Taiwanese type dishes to cater to younger audiences.
Part of this new menu is also available at the Molek outlet now.
Kopilicious' claim to fame is their hand pulled kopi peng (ice coffee) which is reputedly the best in JB.
The kopi is smooth, robustly bitter sweet. Personally, I am not a big fan of iced coffee, especially the sweet type but that is just me lah. Lots of people are in love with this kopi peng.
They also have teh peng (iced tea) and a drink known as One Malaysia which is a blend of coffee, tea and Milo.
Me..., I am still a kopi C kosong guy....... . Soon, I will need to "upgrade" to kopi O kosong π
Besides kopi, all I need most times is just a simple reliable kaya and butter toast.
Over the years, we tried many different dishes at Kopilicious.
We like their curry mee mainly because of their rich, flavourful, spicy curry. They are generous with curry leaves, so there's a lot of curry leaf aroma in the curry.
I like dry mee siam in Malaysian coffee shops. Kopilicious' rendition is good with the right balance of savouriness and spiciness for me. I prefer the version at Molek over the one at Sentosa which is more savoury salty.
The egg is nice though not the runny type. But, ok lahπ many people prefer this creamy doneness.
Kopilicious' rendang sauce is rich with spice flavours. We love it. The chicken was tender though doesn't have much flavour on its own.
They also have a fried chicken marinaded in rendang sauce.
I had this rendang fried chicken with nasi lemak at Kopilicious Sentosa.
I like the rendang flavour and crispy skin. The chicken is a little dry but many like it this way.
Kopilicious is one of the in trend slightly elevated traditional coffee shops to try in Johor Bahru. The coffee is good, the food is nice, the menu is wide ranging and prices are competitive.
