| Spicy Wife Nasi Lemak | 7 Maxwell Rd, Amoy Street Food Centre, stall #02-119, S069111 🚅 5 minute minute walk from Maxwell & Telok Ayer station ☎ 8089 2119 ⏰ 10:45am - 2pm (Sat & Sun off) |
New spicy lady on the block was attracting a lot of attention 🤭 😘
Long queue for Spicy Wife especially during the lunch rush hour. It's a one-man-band which added to the long waiting time.
Spicy Wife envy.
Anyway, on that day I already squandered my cholesterol and carb budget at another (unsatisfying) food stall 🙄 So, can only watch others enjoy their Spicy Wife 🥹
Came back today to stalk Spicy Wife.
Queue was just 6 - 8 deep at 11am.
Time passed easily in the queue with whiffs of Spicy Wife's aromatic spice perfume and sounds of her gentle sizzle - music to my ears.
One-man-operation, air of tension and frenetic action at Spicy Wife but I got my serving after waiting around just 10 minutes.
Spicy Wife used to serve nasi lemak with ayam goreng berempah, chicken rendang and mutton rendang.
But, everyone only wants one thing from Spicy Wife.
Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah.
Not very photogenic orh lu lu but its darkness had a kind of mysterious allure.
Anyway, the components of Village Park-style nasi lemak - it's all there. Fried chicken, coconut milk rice, and sambal. But, Spicy Wife one upped the Damansara Uptown original with a fried egg thrown in 🤭
At $6.50, it's good value in the heart of the Central Business District.
The rice was soft tender, moist, neither wet nor nutty. The sweet flavour and smell of coconut milk were pleasantly discernible.
It was a whole thigh, heavily spiced, deep fried till dark brown outside. I can smell smokiness, as well as the aroma of charred spices and aromatics like lemongrass. My anticipation was heightened.
The outside was crisp, moderately spicy but quite robustly salty.
The flesh below was much milder in flavour and was tender, almost moist. Relatively more tender and more flavoursome than most nasi lemak fried chicken that I have eaten (including the famous brands).
The fried egg was alright, not bad. Prefer this than many places which give us hard boiled egg (like the Village Park version) or egg fried till the yolk is firm.
Sambal was nice. Spicy hot, savoury salty, onion sweet with mild lingering heat.
Spicy or not?
Not bad lah, the fired chicken a bit too salty for my palate but spicy tasty overall even though the sambal wasn't hot enough 🤭
A bit of leftovers because the serving was huuuge and slightly too salty for me without a drink of water.

Wanted to try this for my next food hunt and thanks for heads up review
ReplyDeletethis is my favorite stall
ReplyDeleteYou have to try mutton rendang here is the best
ReplyDeleteHong Lim and Amoy are probably the top 2 among the 7 food centres in the CBD. The stalls that survive in Amoy Street Food Centre are truly exceptional, paying around $5,000 in rent, depend on the extremely heavy weekday lunch crowd that lasts just 3 hours. Outside of that, and on weekends, business is almost quiet.
ReplyDeleteAmoy street is one of my favourite food centre, many stalls are good.
