招牌猪手 Pork Knuckle (Trotter) @ Eng Kee 淡杯老荣记 in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai, Johor

I love pork trotters 猪手 whether it is braised, stewed, roasted, baked or fried like German style Schweinshaxe pork knuckles. So, when I heard about 淡杯老荣记 Eng Kee's signature fried pork trotter 招牌猪手, I couldn't wait to try it.

Eng Kee's stewed trotter was personally prepared by the lady boss and it had the essence of over thirty years of experience and expertise put into making it.

When an order is received the boss' son will deep fry the stewed pork trotter.

Then, fries the buns and makes the savoury gravy.

Eng Kee 淡杯老荣记 signature pork trotter is ready.

Eng Kee's signature pork trotter tasted great!

Never mind that Eng Kee is located in an industrial area passed its prime and now littered with abandoned shops, untidy car repair workshops and store houses.

The golden brown pork trotter was crispy on the outside, yet it was also moist inside due to the little remaining fat and gelatinous tendons kept intact. The golden orange, savoury gravy had a nice balance of salty and sweet flavours with delicate tangy notes.

I love it that in Johor Bahru, two persons can enjoy a top grade fried pork trotter in savoury gravy for a grand total of RM20 😄

Besides their popular pork trotters 招牌猪手, Eng Kee 淡杯老荣记's other signature dishes are their Fried Bee Hoon with Braised Pork Belly and KL Hokkien Mee.

👉 Eng Kee 淡杯老荣记 is one place to impress your friends that you are in the know about Johor food - by finding delicious food even in the most unlikely corners of JB 😄.

  1. Hi,

I have been reading your blog to find out more about JB. I travel to JB quite often to find delicious food like you, but by public buses in JB near City Square. May I ask how to go to taman perling by bus there? Is the distance far?

    Thanks for helping:)

  2. Dear SH Tan, I am not familiar with public transport in JB except for SMRT bus 950 and 160 ;P Perhaps the bus men at City Square are able to help you. Also, when I find good information on JB public transport, I will share it here ;D Happy eating.

  3. Hi Johor Kaki, I tried this restaurant last Sat night with my mom and sister. We lived nearby this restaurant but never knew about their existence, thanks to you man! We love the pork trotter, it was as you have described, crispy on the outside and moist inside..love it...however, we were not a fan of the KL Hokkien Mee which as per your description, it's on the sweeter side.... Nonetheless, I want to thank you again for all these great post...am going try try and try...Keep up the good work!

    1. hahaha Daphne, glad you enjoyed the pork trotter. Yes, the Hokkien mee of KL and Johor are rather different in taste and texture. Wish you happy reading and eating. Looking forward to your recommendations too :)

  4. I love the food here as well. The pig's maw soup and stir-fried kailan is good too.

  5. Loved the crispy skin of the deep fried pork trotter; it is different from the soft gelatinous trotter you get at the Pekin Restaurant.
