Restoran 8 Ah Sam Kopitiam in Permas Jaya. Cheap & Tasty Economic Rice in Johor Bahru
Bumped into Joe while running errands in Johor Bahru. It is always great to catch up with Joe. He bought me teh tarik and shared with me JB foodie tips. Many of the early Johor Kaki posts were tip offs from Joe. Thanks buddy! We agreed to meet the next day at his usual lunch hangout at Restoran 8 Ah Sam Kopitiam 豪美味 in Permas Jaya.

| Pasar Ikan Orang Asli Bakar Batu | Jalan Bayu Puteri 2, Kampung Bakar Batu, Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru ☏ +6017 983 4669 ⏰ 8:00am - 10:00am (Tues off) |
Got up early this morning to visit Pasar Ikan at Kampung Bakar Batu in Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru. It's a popular place where locals get the daily catch of fresh fish from Orang Asli fishermen at slightly lower than town prices. There are also some fishmongers here.
Review of Yap Kee Wanton Mee @ Restoran Si Hu Coffee Shop ● Jalan Permas 9/2 Johor Bahru
Whenever I am in a taxi, somehow we ended up chatting happily with the driver about.... what else.... but food.... As we near our destination, I often ask the driver to name his top 3 favourite food stalls. Today in JB, our taxi driver Siang named Hwa Mei ("Ah B") bak kut teh, Lai Kee fish ball noodles and Yap Kee wanton mee in Permas Jaya.
Boneless BBQ Sambal Stingray at 999 Ikan Bakar at BR Coffee Shop in Permas Jaya Johor Bahru
Stumbled upon this really good ikan bakar stall today at BR 新国花 coffee shop in Permas Jaya. I've been here at BR coffee shop a few times before but somehow missed this 999 Ikan Bakar stall. It's one of my favourite ikan bakar stalls in Malaysia and Singapore now. For lucky JB folks, this brilliant stall in Permas Jaya is so accessible 😄

Chef Ong's Kick Ass Penang Hokkien Prawn Mee Johor Permas Jaya
When I posted about Chef Ong's delicious salmon noodle soup and salmon dumplings, readers told me "Aiyah, why didn't you try his Penang Hokkien prawn mee? That one you must not miss." So, I did what I have to do the very next day :-D
Jalan Permas 10/5.

Bar Wang Rice 卤肉|霸王飯 - Johor Bahru's Wallet Friendly Tyrant Rice
Recently, whenever we passed by Permas Jaya in JB, we noticed this corner restaurant which is always busy. We were quite curious about what it is all about, especially when it has a rather self-important name like Bar Wang Rice or 霸王飯 which means Tyrant Rice. So, we paid it a visit today at lunch. We found nothing to fear and in fact, it is a wallet friendly place :-D
15 Storey Ah Kiang • Closest Thing in JB to Singapore's Mee Pok or Bak Chor Mee
✍ 13 May 2016. It's funny, just across the kilometre long Causeway and the iconic Singapore bak chor mee cannot be found in Johor Bahru. While hunting for the best JB hawker food, my heart skipped a beat when I stumbled upon Ah Kiang's mee pok in Permas Jaya four years ago. The resemblance is strong though there are obvious differences (like no bak chor or minced pork in the noodles). Still, I tried 十五楼亚坚's mee pok and liked it straight away.
