Majapahit_Gold_Srivijaya_Gold

National Treasure at National Museum of Singapore

One of the most fascinating artefacts at the National Museum of Singapore is this gold armlet known as Majapahit Gold.

It was discovered in 1928 near the summit of today's Fort Canning Hill when workers were doing earthworks for the sewage system.

Flaming Drunken Goose Dadi / Great Earth📍 Shunde Foshan Guangdong 顺德 大地醉鹅 ☎️ 0772-7213188

In Shunde 顺德, one of the UNESCO Cities of Creative Gastronomy, there is roast goose, of course, and there is also flaming drunken goose - a Shunde staple. Many locals swear that 大地醉鹅 is the best place for this unique goose dish.

大地醉鹅 doesn't have an English name, so for this article I shall call it Great Earth Drunken Goose.

Dong Yuan Guangzhou Flavours Famous Roast Goose Yuexiu District 东园广州味 ☎ +86 20 3166 7173

Goose is of course high on our Guangzhou agenda (as usual). We had a few this time, I will write them up one by one - but I am putting up 东园 first - some friends said they are waiting for my write ups for their own upcoming trips soon 🤣🤭

I couldn't find an English name for 东园广州味, so I shall name it Dong Yuan Guangzhou Flavours for this article. 东园广州味 is a chain with a few outlets in Guangzhou. They have been well received by the notoriously famously fastidious discerning palates of Guangzhou locals as the daily full house and long queues attest.

Shantou Lao Hia Kway Teow Mee 汕头老哑粿条面

When I travel, especially to places where many Singapore / Malaysia pioneers came from, I scan for dishes found in Singapore / Malaysia so that I can learn about the origins of these dishes.

Kedai Kopi Aik Seng📍Jalan Wharf, Sarikei, Sarawak 益星茶室 ☎ +6016 221 3635

For your obligatory morning coffee or coffee break in Sarikei, can go to century old Kedai Kopi Aik Seng.

There must be other interesting, old coffee shops in Sarikei but I need to go back and explore the town a little deeper to find them.

Rice Paste Soup Ding Bian Hu Treasure Land Sibu 田宝鼎边糊

Rice Paste Soup or Ding Bian Hu 鼎边糊 is a Hock Chew dish I heard of for a long time but never tried it till today. Neither Singapore nor Johor has this dish.

Ding bian Hu 鼎边糊 literally means "ding" 鼎 (wok), "bian" 边 (the side or edge), and "hu" 糊 (flat rice noodle pieces, paste, crepe or kway).

Kulai Hua Shu Fire Steam Chicken 古来华叔火蒸鸡 ☎ +60182623740
