Pin Ming Xuan Cantonese Dim Sum 品茗軒 廣式茶樓 | 10, Jalan Serigala, Taman Century Garden, 80250 Johor Bahru ☏ +6017 767 7399 ⏰ 8am - 4pm (Mon close at 1pm) |
Had long wanted to try Pin Ming Xuan Cantonese Dim Sum and finally made it this morning 🕺 It was so good!
There's already a queue at 9am on a Monday morning, and for the first time in my life anywhere, I saw a restaurant where they actually have uniformed security to maintain queue order 😂
It felt cool inside the small space which was full house for breakfast.
This is not really a hangout and chill place, as there is always a queue waiting outside for your seat 😂 Eat the delicious food, and go 😂 Give the next person a chance to enjoy 😛
(Pin Ming Xuan has just opened a larger outlet in Taman Megah Ria.)
古早瓜子松软马来糕 Traditional Mala Cake. This sweet steamed dessert came first 😬 But, it was nice. Fluffy, airy, spongy not too sweet with bits of crunch and nutty flavour from melon seeds.
鼓汁蒸排骨 Steamed Pork Ribs. Meat was fall-off-the-bone tender. Mild balanced sweet savoury salty flavours with a subtle bit of herbal taste. Pork tasted fresh.
香闷花生鸡脚 Fragrant Braised Chicken Feet with Peanuts. I thought chicken feet is a dish so good that it can't get any better.
Pin Ming Xuan proved me wrong. The flavours were well balanced, layered savoury and sweet flavours at the right intensity for me. The fall-off-the-bone tender skin and tendons had a bit of soft crunch throughout.
鲜虾肠粉 Steamed Shrimp Cheong Fun Rolls bathed in a light sloshy savoury sweet soy sauce. Soft rice sheets, soft gently crunchy prawns with subtle umami sweetness.
粤式饺子卖 Cantonese Style Corn Dumpling Platter. The standard Cantonese pork dumpling elevated by studding the soft tender pork with sweet corn and aromatics. I am not normally a fan of siew mai as I find it often too meaty, but this at PMX was nice.
鲜虾虾饺 Fresh Shrimp Dumpling. The wrap wasn't stretchy, so the skin broke when I picked it up but the soft tender prawn pieces inside were deliciously sweet. (Not the whole prawn in a thin chewy translucent purse type.)
干蒸烧卖 Siew Mai. This was a mix of pork and prawn meat. Fresh, layered sweetness and gently savoury.
明虾饺 Deep Fried Prawn Dumpling. It's minced shrimp, densely packed inside the crisp fried wanton skin purse.
古早鱼皮饺 Traditional Fish Skin Dumplings.
Busy chatting, didn't really pay 100% attention to this but I remember it was tastily savoury sweet with a blend of chewy outside and moist soft tender inside.
特色炒萝卜糕 Special Sauce Stir Fried Radish Cake.
A bit too eggy, too much savoury sweet sauce intensity and not enough radish for me as I was thinking of the traditional fried radish cake.
Pin Ming Xuan even have their own Kampung Koh garlic chili blend. Win already lo... like that.... .
Today, we only had a small sampling of Pin Ming Xuan's wide range of over thirty dim sum dishes. We didn't try the bao(!) this time because we had major meals lined up later today.
Anyway, I love almost everything I tried today. Delicious food, competitive prices. PMX is among my favourite dim sum spots in JB now and I shall be back to try more dishes like the bao, spicy dumplings, congee, etc.
Thank you buddy JH for bringing us here and for the treat 🙏 We love this place.
