This was the largest fish head I ever had and it is marvellously delicious. The happening place, good friends, great drinks and delicious Japanese dishes at Tora Tora Tora made the evening fun and an absolute pleasure.
Tora Tora Tora is a casual rooftop Japanese restaurant and bar where those who know come to chill, hangout, have good food and nice drinks. It has poolside al fresco dining, comfortable main hall and one karaoke room.
The karaoke room is soundproofed but every time a staff or patron swings open the karaoke room door, the music leaks into the dining hall. I enjoyed the choices of the karaoke patrons on that night ๐
The vibes remind me of those heady party days long long ago ๐ฌ
I was jio-ed (invited) to come for the giant tuna fish head. The tuna fish head needs pre-booking ☎ 9852 9148. I don't know the weight of today's fish but it was enough for 12 people and cost nearly $400. Price of fish head is seasonal, so you need to enquire when you book.
The fresh tuna fish head was simply baked together with various sweet root vegetables and a blend of savoury sauce and oil, then finished by torching.
It was absolutely stunning. The soft tissues and membrane were so soft, silky smooth, creamy and tasted exquisitely savoury sweet from the sauces, vegetables, and the fish itself with its juices and oil.
My more knowledgeable friend later told me next time to go for the meat at the top of the head known as noten.
Besides the roasted tuna fish head we had sake and whisky as well as simply gorgeous dishes from the youthful but talented crew. These oysters were ocean fresh and oh... so.... juicy and succulent.
This is literally an umami bomb. It is not a true miso but a blend of crab innards (often called crab roe) blended with raw egg into a thick creamy dip. You can imagine the heady blend of rich umami sweetness.
Eat the "miso" with crisp prawn cracker like a spoon. I enjoyed the cracker's crackly crispness and the added crustacean umami flavour from the prawn.
Not a menu item, so have to prebook ☎ 9852 9148.
Exquisitely sweet sashimi prawn which were soft with subtle crunch to the bite. The heads were rich with head mayo (often referred to as roe).
Tora Ebi Tempura. The fried fresh prawn wrapped in light crisp golden brown batter was juicy and sweet. It was very nice but I was even more blown away by the fried prawn head.
Pro-tip: Collect all the prawn heads from all the people in your party who don't eat them (thank them for their generosity ๐ ). The fried prawn head were crispy like prawn crackers and no prawn cracker ever tasted this good! The best of both worlds.
You are welcome ๐ฌ
I am not sure what cut of pork this was but it felt like all that savoury sweetness just melted in my mouth.
By this time, the combo of sake and amazing Yamazaki 18 was having its effect ๐ฌ
If you know me personally, you will know that I crazy love corn. These fresh tasting sweet, mildly savoury and subtly smoky juicy Hokkaido white corn grilled with butter were amazing.
If you love parties, drinks and good food, can check out this hidden joint gem.
